who makes the toughest shocks for hard dd, slammed cars
my problem is that i blow a set of shocks in about 6 months. my car is slammed and i live in the city so the rough driving is un-avoidable. i've had kyb gr2's and dropzones. both sets were junk. in the past i have used tokicko blues on my other cars but they were never as low so i really can't compare them because they didn't really take the abuse that i put my integra through.
so what have you found to be the strongest shocks you've used. i'm not looking to drop 1000 bucks on a set of coilovers for my daily. should i just pick up another set of kybs and deal with it. i have no plans on raising my car up so that is not an option

if you get some extended top hats (ground control or custom made) it should increase the life of the shocks by allowing more travel of the shaft. it will also help you avoid bottoming out as much. and get some stiffer springs so the shocks dont have to do as much work. but regardless, if you are slammed, you will wear out the shocks much much faster than if you were just lowered.

Why are you using replacement OEM shocks on a slammed car?
Get some Koni Sports or an air ride system.
Oh, your neighborhood ain't nothing compared to Detroit. (Michigan rated worst roads in USA)

well this isn't a pissing battle to see who has the worst neighborhood.
i think i'll weld up a set of those extended top hats. and see how that works out.

koni yellows are designed for lowered cars and don't have a max drop limit like most other shocks do. i've had them for 3 years with h&r race springs, still going strong. well worth the money.

There is no hope for your car, raise it up.
It seems like every other thread on here is problems encountered with extreme lowering and people always get pissy when they are told the suspension wasn't made to handle that ride height.
But yes, top hats should help prevent your shocks from bottoming out and actually buying decent shocks would help too. Are you really surprised that GR2's, Tokico HP's, and dropzone shocks couldn't handle a 4" drop??

x2 get a air ride system if you want to ride slammed, or call up koni, or kyb and ask for a custom shorten shock. for sure koni well do it, and kyb should but not to sure.

Stock Koni Yellow's out of the box are not designed for lowered cars. Koni says they are safe up to a 2" drop.
If you want to slam your car, you have 3 options.
1. Ground Control Top Hats
2. Re-valved Koni Yellows (Best bet, buy a set of blown shocks, send them in and have them re-valve them. You cannot use GC tophats if you have them re-valved).
3. Full Bodied Coil overs.

Also, why would you not be able to use GC top hats with revalved Koni shocks? Also it's usually more expensive to revalve 4 Koni shocks than buying 4 brand new OTS Koni Sport shocks.

uhm that is not true, i had my koni/GC drop 3" for almost a year already. still in tip top shape since the day i bought it. kinda bumpy IMO but that's what you get if you drop it too low
