ever since i bought my 97 gs, it has been making a weird noise from the rear wheels. it is like a ticking/hissing/rubbing. it increases as i increase speed. however, when i press my brakes, it goes away completly, no matter what speed i am at (this is different from the cases already posted in the integra forum regarding wheel bearings)

from searching, it sounds like a lot of people have this problem, but with the the front. i am certain the noise is coming from the BACK. anyone have ideas before i go have both rear wheel bearings replaced and get *** raped on labor?

again, it the noise increases with speed, but goes away when i press the breaks, no matter what speed i am going. brakes or wheel bearing?

stupid question...

i have the car up. i spin the rear tire. the brake pad is making a rubbing noise. is this normal? dumb question i know, but when i turn the tire it makes a rubbing sound.

could the sound be coming from the fact that my rotors are warped? because when i turn the hub (?) there is a rubbing and it is harder for the rotor to turn at one point, it almost feels "tight" then it only is a slight rub. someone please help! i don't feel a vibration or anything during breaking, so does that rule out the warped rotor?

You use the front pads more. Yes you have a warped rotor. And if you do a bearing do it your self. Much cheaper.

so the warped rotor is causing the slight rubbing sounds when i turn the hub without the wheel on there? would this caus the hissing sounds when driving, but it goes away when i apply the brakes? becasue it is like that on both sides of the rear. i am not sure how long the rotors have been on there, i know i have had the car for a year and a half and have not replaced them.

rubbing sound when wheel is off and i spin the hub assembly slow = warped rotor?

i had the same problem, turns out my rear caliper was seized

my brakes seem fine, no stopping problems or vibrations while breaking or anything, just an annoying noise.

so the break pads are not supposed to make a rubbing sound against the rotor?

The noise goes away when you brake. Sound like the rear pads are worn. The inner left and right side pads have a squeel tab built onto them. When the pad wears to the point where the tab makes contact with the rotor, you get this squeel noise. Some customers have described this as a hissing noise. I sugest inspecting the rear brake pads. if you wait too long, you can chew up rotors and then it gets expensive.

hmmm thanks for that input. i will def have to have that looked at. that would be great if i just need some break pads

the sound is very hard to describe, it is kind of, like you said, hissing, not so much grinding or anything. but it def goes away when breaking. however, as i go faster, the noise picks up speed as well.

sorry if i am jacking thread....
i just changed my front brakes and they make the loudest and the worst noise ever. I think it's the new pad rubbing against the rotor but i did 2 weeks of extremely hard driving on the brakes thinking i could rub off the pad a little. No help... The noise is really loud but it;s only at low speeds(0-25)... like if i break hard u wont hear it, however if i am not braking or lightly braking u will hear it. The other day i was on the highway in traffic and it was really annoying. The sound is sometimes like when a steam engine train puts it's brakes on... it's that bad. What could be the problem? warped rotors? BTW the brakes arent acura brakes, they were from pep boys.
and i also replaced my studs could that be it? It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side wheel.

THIS ONLYT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR/ROTORS ARE WARM! The first 5 min of driving when they are still cold there is no noise.. HELP sound is annoying.

-worn brake pads
-warped brake rotors
-siezed caliper (?)
-wheel bearing (?)

Go ahead and throw some AutoZone rotors and pads on the back. The rotors are only about $17 each, not worth taking the old ones off and getting them resurfaced IMHO unless you can get it done for free or something.
