Purolator Pure One or Mobil 1's... I remember reading somewhere that some of the Honda OEM's were actually made by FRAM/Honeywell, while some are made by Filtech.

all hondas share the same small filter now cept the nsx and s2.

If you ask me, get the highest quality aftermarket one that is bigest in size. (more filtering longer if you run **** oil or go long on a change interval )

Nothing wrong with OEM but i like a lil longer filtering capability, especially since i run synthetic and dont go a full 5-6k where filter needs to be changed 2x.

oem s2k. uses the old filter element, the one before they switched to fram or whatever they use now.

Guys, as stated before a LOT of the OEM filters are made by Fram, so saying fram suck get OEM just does not work......

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

That website had a ton of oil filter information, including the part numbers to tell if your OEM filter is just a fram. Search around in there forum ( http://theoildrop.server101.co...m;f=6 ) and you eill learn a lot about different filters, oil and what it all means.

Which is why when I used to use synthetic oil and OEM Honda filters several years ago, I would ALWAYS insist on a filter that said Made in USA when I went to the Honda dealer. Those were made by Filtech and were shown to be a good deal better than those Fram POS's.

Now since I switched to Valvoline MaxLife (well over 100K miles ago) I have always been using STP filters (#2808 I believe for most Hondas). At about $3 each it doesn't break the bank, but does its job pretty well. My car has 224K miles on it now and doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil.

I have an integra as well and I use a 2002 S2000 oil filter with no complaints. Costs about 9 bucks and change from Honda.

jeeezzz man that's nearly what it costs me to do the whole oil change (about $13 for 4 qts. of Valvoline MaxLife 5w30 and STP filter). Not worth it IMHO if you change the oil every 3K miles like I do.

all honda oil filters that have the white "H" symbol on the bottom are made by fram.. the only filter that is pure jap. is the oil filter for the s2000 made by hamp i beleive... there is a link in the integra type r sub-forum.. u should be able to find it with a search for oil filter or s2000 filter...... there are pics of each filter cut open.. after reading that thread i've switched to s2000 filters .. their only a few bucks more but worth the insurance of filtered oil.. hope this helps ..

found this one but i can't seen to find the one i was refering to it was about a year ago... pg. 2 has plenty of links for oil filter tests..https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1.. hope this works right..

It costs me alot more than that because I use 4qts. of Royal Purple 5W-30 and the S2000 oil filter. But I also dont change my oil every 3k either.

Honeywell makes the A02 filters and Filtech produces the A01. I hear a lot of people saying that fram makes OEM filters but this is not true... honeywell and fram may be affliated but cut open a fram and then a OEM one and tell me if they are the same thing.

BTW, s2000 oil filters are LARGER than regular civic/integra ones not smaller.

that fact is disturbing. that just means you have driven that thing like morgan freeman does in "DMD."

<------ 97k, burns oil.

here is what i was looking for earlier [IMG][/IMG][IMG]OEM Honda Filters Observations (Nov 2001)
For anyone that hasn't been following along...Honda is using new oil filters in North America. These are made by Honeywell according to the case, which is noteably smaller. I'm curious on the "new" manufacturer. Honeywell is a division of Allied Signal that, among other things, owns Fram. Is it a rebadged Fram? Honda has been using their own spec Fram(made in Canada) and Filtech(made in the USA) for several years now. The merits of a smaller filter are still up for debate and finding the large filters is getting harder by the day

Honda also specifies a filter for the s2000 that is different from the rest of the Hondas (p/n 15400-PCX-004). It is manufactured by Toyo-Roki. Dimensionally, it is still the same size as the large standard OEM filter. This new filter still fits all the same models. Shopping around has turned these up for around $6.50.
Honda sells three levels of parts in Japan, if I recall correctly. From cheapest to most expensive, they have OEM original parts(HOP), aftermarket parts(HAMP) and racing parts(Hyper). The HAMP filters are available through several importers. They used to be reasonably priced but I can't find them for anything under $9 now (or in stock). The HAMP filters are also made by Toyo-Roki.

After reading several online filter studies, Mike and I decided cut a few filters open. We found a few interesting things.
HAMP and the OEM s2000 filter are identical down to the end cap on the filter media. The end caps are metal. The spring/valve is bonded to the end cap.
The Honda spec Fram uses cardboard end caps. The bypass valve isn't even fastened to the end cap, it falls right out once the housing is removed. The spring/valve is a little easier to push open. The filters metal housing is also marginally thinner.
For curiosity's sake, we split open an off the shelf Fram Double Guard. It was made even more poorly then the Honda/Fram. The Double Guard has teflon on the media...Mike joked this was to keep dirt from bonding to the filter. Same cardboard end caps, but less filter media and even softer spring/valve.

So my personal opinions/observations?
I'm not going to discuss Fram quality with anyone anymore...my mind is made up. They suck.
Fram users keep your testimonials to yourself. If you don't like my observations, cut your own open and tell me why they're great filters. Mike has still been using Fram but after we were done here, he threw the Fram filters he had in the trash.
Why does the s2000 need a different filter? Why don't the new standard filters measure up to the s2000? Will they measure up for us? Right now, they seem like a good alternative to the HAMP filters and a better choice then the standard large OEM Honda filters.

ah hahhhaa you must not know me or my car very well. I drive my car damn well hard enough, probably too hard for the miles it has on it. Jackrabbit starts and 5K RPM shifts all the time (bad habbit).

I'm just lucky to have gotten a good engine, I guess, and have taken meticulous care of it since I bought it with 89K miles on it.
