Default What is my next step? (Timing issue)

Hello!

So earlier in the month I posted a question about an electrical problem that I had, which everyone told me that since I replaced my distributor I should check the timing with a timing light. Well I finally got around to purchasing a timing light, and began the procedures to checking my timing.

Now the problem that I've run into is not being able to properly set the timing at all. I have adjusted the distributor the furthest it possibly can go but the closest I can get to the middle of the 3 marks is the TDC mark.

What would my next steps be? Attempting to adjust the cam gears and the crankshaft? or the other way around?

did you set the car into base timing mode, by jumping the service connector, at op temp?

I did. After doing that while I was checking the timing (mind that my distributor is as forward placed as it can be) the closest I got was TDC and wouldn't go any closer.

Sounds like you may need to double check the mechanical timing

If that is the case, would I set the cams to tdc, remove the crank pulley and check if the mark on the crank gear lines up with the oil pump mark? I was just hoping to be able to understand what I need to do before I do it. Such as, if it were off when I check the crank gear markings, would I adjust the crank and leave the cam gears alone?

Fixed! Ended up being the distributor not displacing enough voltage(or whatever the terminology is). I was so close to taking all the belts off and removing the crankshaft to see if the timing on the oil pump was off or not. LUCKILY for some odd reason I decided to try another distributor(called my friend over who just happened to have a spare). Bolted it up and used the timing light to set my timing and BAM! Timings back to normal and there doesnt seem to be any loss in power.

Thank you to everyone who helped!
