so this is the 3rd or 4th time this happents but this time it was ALOT worst.
i'm going 60 in 5th and suddenly there is this knoking feeling in the shifter. no nose, no nothing, everythingn is as smooth as usual except the knoking feel. so i get into neutral and its still happning. the knock got harder as i reved. It felt like there was somone knocking on the shift linkage with a wrench. I put it into 4th, 5th ... same thing. Then as I was driving it got started getting softer and stopped. The rest of the ride home was as smooth as usual.
as i mentioned before this is not the first time this has happened. I believe that it rained every time (i doubt it has anything to do with it), always on the highway, no noise, no hesitation, just comes and goes without warning. the knoking gets harder every time.
btw i have 125K on the car and i believe its the original clutch.
the tranny also makes a loud knocking noise and a similar feel when its really cold and i start driving the car in the morning.

take it to a tranny shop and get a free estimate....they will let you know what it is.

It might be your counter shaft final drive. I have a friend that had a similar problem and it turned out to be that the teeth on the final drive decided to grow legs and walk away.
