Replace whole Axle or axle ball joint?
Hello, just asking this question for my sister.
She has a 96 Integra LS w/ 209XXX and when turning left you can hear the driver side axle clicking.
I took it to my cousins shop the other day and asked him about the replacing axle. He took a look and he said the axle is fine and it is still in good condition. He took it for a test drive and he said it's the axle ball joint instead of the whole axle.
My sister already got the axle from autozone and he said if I can just take it back and go refund it and get the axle ball joint instead to save some money + get some ceramic brake pads .
So what I am asking is. Should I just replace the whole axle or save some money and go get some new front brake pads and a axle ball joint.
I've already read the DIY replacing axle and I've seen my cousin done it a few times and it's not that hard. I am going to be replacing it myself.
Thanks.
EDIT: Yes it is the CV joint my bad

if its clicking id say it is the axle, the ball joints do not usually click, they are more of a clunk. He may mean the CV joints are bad. The ball joints, there is an upper and a lower, these pieces attact the spindle to the upper and lower control arms

This^^....If your hearing clicking while turning its the CV joint...Replace the whole axle...Auto zone has lifetime warranted axles for like 100 bucks...You will need a 32mm axle nut socket which you can rent from autozone too...If your ball joints are bad and you replace the axle you're essentially not fixing the problem....

If I'm not mistaken you can't just buy the stuff to replace just the CV joint anymore, the parts stores all sell just the entire axle assembly for like $60-70. You can get CV boot kits and repack with grease but if your hearing clicking then its too late for that.

Re: Replace whole Axle or axle ball joint?
Bad news. I guess it was the axle + the CV joint. The CV joint was all torn apart when I took it out and now I guess I have to go get another axle. LAME!
The axle doesn't even look in bad shape also.
