Default Priming engine after rebuild

I just rebuilt my engine and dropped it back into my teg. Everything is hooked up and ready to start but I'm trying to prime the engine first.

I took out the spark plugs, unplugged the fuel injectors and I also cut off power to the fuel pump. I'm turning the engine over with the starter but I'm not seeing any oil make it's way to the cams. I've already tried turning it with the starter about 6 or 7 times at a constant 15 seconds or so each time and now my battery is dying.

I just tried researching it here and I found some thread in the Prelude forum saying to just wait until the oil light turns off in the dash, and that when the oil light is no longer lit, you are good to go. Does the same apply to Integras? Or do I really have to wait until I see oil on the cams?

I've never primed an engine before so I have no idea how long it takes for oil to make its way to the top, and when or if it does, how much oil actually comes out. I know oil shouldn't be flying all over the place, but does it really start flowing noticeably or do I have to really look closely to notice? The cam lobes are still dry. Where exactly does the oil come out of? I'm assuming the cam caps. Perhaps also maybe from the bottom of the rocker arm ball joints?

No assembly lube? that's what's it's for, next would take the VC off and pour some oil on. Or just let it idle there's no harm in that either with my friends turbo K we used lots of lube and pored a bit extra in/on the head before we put the valve cover on and started it up.

Of course I used assembly lube, I just didn't use a ton for the cam lobes. Just the journals of the cams where the caps go and on the rocker arms.

But I'll just go ahead and pour some oil on the top and if I don't see an oil light in my dash after cranking it a few more times then I'll fire it up and hope for the best.

If the oil light is out you should be fine. Usually all I've ever done is pull the ecu fuse, crank until the light goes out, reinstall the fuse, and let 'er rip.

Okay she started up! Man its such a wonderful sound and feeling to hear your car run buttery smooth after 5 months of being down!

I hope its at least another couple years before I have to mess with the engine/transmission again because I think I stripped/over-torqued one of the top transmission bell housing bolts by not torquing them all evenly and in steps. LOL Oh well we live and learn. I'm going to have fun with that one when the time comes...
