Oil Pan Gasket Questions

Oil Pan Gasket Questions
Hi I have a 94 Integra GSR and my oil pan is leaking again. The guy who I bought the car from said it's going to need a new oil pan gasket. I took the oil pan off and found that he did not use an OEM gasket but he used just RTV gasket maker. I used a razor blade to take all of the excess rtv stuff off and I reapplied a thick coat around the whole oil pan. Now it's leaking again.
Questions:
If the oil pan is bent is it possible for it to leak? (it didn't look bent but someone suggested it to me)
Are GSR and LS oil pans the same? Would an LS oil pan fit a GSR motor?
Was I supposed to use an OEM Honda gasket instead of just gasket maker?
And if it is my rear main seal leaking would my oil pan be soaked in oil? (flywheel is dry)
Thanks in advance!

Re: Oil Pan Gasket Questions
you shouldnt have used gasket maker, just scrape it off and pick up an oil pan gasket from an auto part store.
if the bottom of the pan is dented it wont cause leaking
if the bottom of the pan is dented it wont cause leaking

Re: Oil Pan Gasket Questions
do not over tighten the bolts and use honda bond! i just went threw this mess. i ran over a fire hydrant cap over that was laying in the middle of the highway (that im assuming fell off of a truck) and put a nice hole in my pan. i put the old oil pan gasket up because when i took the old pan off it looked practically brand new. when i put it up it started to leak about 2 weeks later. i then took the pan down, put a new gasket on it from autozone, and it leaked again a couple weeks later. i returned that gasket, put another new one on only this time with a **** ton of honda bond and it worked. 10 lbs is really hard to torque being its really not alot at all, so the best way to do this imo is put honda bond on both sides of the new gasket spread evenally, and every bolt you tighten just tighten until you see the gasket coming out not even a mm. let the honda bond dry a day and you should be good.

You're suppose to use a real gasket and use silicone for certain sections. I've scanned this page out of my manual for you:

DO NOT use Hondabond on the entire gasket. Apply it to those 4 points shown in the diagram above and that's it.
This is how I did mine 1.5 years ago and no leaks since.

I didnt know the spec was 9 ft lbs. I put it on WAY tighter than that and its still leaking! Guess I'll do it again and see what happens. Good thread!
