Default Oil light flashing

Just got a new integra, oil light flashes every so often, sometimes car almost dosnt want to run, and I shut it off, wont start, and I try it again and it will start right up and wont flash? Checked the oil and that looks good, im going to do an oil change though. Could it be the oil sending unit?

sounds like you could have some failed bearings in the motor causing it not to make adequate enough oil pressure

i'd recommend not running it anymore and having some take a look at it

if you do change the oil, look for shavings. The motor isn't knocking or making any noises?

Nope, no strange noises no knocking, just bought it off a friend, hes had it about a month and has had no problems, we were out today, and of course right after I get it the light flashes, struggles to accelerate, and then is fine a minute later, drove home no light, go for a drive down the road light flashes again but this time runs normal, dosnt struggle.

Sounds like you're over a quart low on oil. Driving it like that will end badly...

Agree- OP, you said you've checked the oil. Check it on level ground so as to not get a false reading.
You might have the wrong dip stick for that engine OR your oil pump is on its way out. How many miles on this engine?

Its ls vtec if that makes any difference, but from what I was told it has about 100,000 miles... I checked oil on level ground, oil looks good and golden and even a little bit past second dot, im not going to be driving the car til its fixed, haha. Next thing im going to do is get the oil pressure sending switch. If that still dosnt fix it replace my oil pump?

If the sending switch doesn't fix it, looks like a rebuild. That light is an indicator of LOW oil pressure like Capt.Jimbo said the bearings could very well be too wide a tolerance to hold pressure also.

what would be the end all solution is to hook up an oil pressure gauge and see what kind of pressure your getting.

if your not getting enough pressure you need to find out why

whether its low oil or bearings.

what ECU are you running, how far are you reving this thing
whats the deal with the LS/V, we need details of the motor

Its got a chipped p28 ecu, don't know much about motor except its an lsv with about 100,000 on it, my friend used to own it, didn't really rev it up a lot, just drove it to work. Oil light never came on before, this is the first time it started flashing, and I don't want to hear the responces immediately jumping to needing a rebuild, obviously the cars still running fine with no strange noises. Only thing I can think of is we finally got VTEC working in it, would VTEC affect it at all?

Sorry if I offended you with the rebuild comment, that wasn't my intention. Typically, most people put all one size rod/main bearing in even though there's very slight differences between a few of each rod/main journal. At the factory, Honda puts a bearing that's within very tight tolerances of spec for each single journal. 100K is pretty good mileage for a rebuilt engine. That's the only reason I mention the POSSIBILITY of rebuild. I've seen a rebuilt bottom end that didn't make 70K. The guy who put the bearings in, however, doesn't give a lot of attention to detail.
What rpm do you take your engine to?

Didn't offend me... haha... I just don't like the fact of people saying it needs rebuilt right away, it makes no strange noises and thats the first time light came on, I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to make the motor last longer before I go for rebuild. Revving wise, my friend owned it and only drove it to work and back, occasionally he'd get on the gas a little and hit VTEC here and there wen we finally got it to work... wasn't like he was revving it past 7000 rpms every time he drove... lol

What oil weight do you use? You might want to try slightly thicker oil to maintain higher oil pressure. It's summer (higher ambient temperatures), so thinner oil will lower your oil pressure.

5W-30 like it says on the cap. And i noticed that when i check the oil, its nice and golden for most of it, and then the very bottom of the stick its more black, typical?

yes typical

with no specs on the motor were left to assume you were out beating on a stock LS bottom end not designed to rev to 8,400 rpms

were left to assume you destroyed your bearings

The stock LS pump isn't efficient enough to satisfy those RPMS

glad thats not the case tho, sounds more electrical then anything

i still say you hook up an oil pressure gauge and get to the bottom of it

Don't worry about it, just drive until it starts making really bad noises and throw it away. After tearing down my LS ( if that is what it is ) i've come to realize these engines are junk.

No crank cradle, no vtec, crappy ports on the head, NOT bucket valve system ( is any honda for that matter ? ) weirdest oil pickup I've ever seen, taking the engine apart reminds me of a go-kart engine.

given they're original design and purpose and what people have done with them, no, they're far from poop.
