No CEL codes, car shuts off while driving
So I have a 1991 Integra GS that when driving it recently it shuts off. Its not a violent stall, there is no odor, no smoke, no random noise or grind. It only happens when Im sitting at a red light or when I have been at continuous cruising speed for around 5 or 10 minutes. The car can be instantly restarted and driven, but sometimes it bogs a little when I turn it back on. I check for CEL codes and Im getting none. I also checked my battery and alternator and both were fine with it producing 14.34V with no electrical load and 14.11v with all electrical components running so its not that. I do have an o-ring on my dizzy needing replacement but its not too bad. My fuel pump primes and car starts 99% of the time. sometimes it takes two turns of the key to get it started but usually only when its sitting a while.
My mechanic said he thinks it might be the TPS or the fuel pressure regulator. He is leaning away from a fuel issue because a car will bog down and studder when its not getting it fuel before it dies and my car just cuts power no studdering or varience in the rpms or power. If I push the gas when it stalls it makes a noise like the motor is trying to rev but the rpms drop quick. Its almost feels like I turn the key back to off when it happens. I was thinking maybe a bad ICM also
So my questions are:
-Wouldn't a malfunctioning TPS trip CEL codes?
-Would a leaky dizzy O-ring cause random turn offs
- Could it be a bad O2 sensor (once again no CEL codes showing this)
- Maybe a dirty fuel filter?
- bad grounds cause car to cut out under loads?
-What am I missing and what else could it be?

Doubt its your 02 sensor but it could be a dirty fuel filter and bad ground.
Its easy and a good idea to change your fuel filter, also have a look at your plugs.
Are they wet or full of carbon (no spark)?
Cleaning grounds is another good option, and very easy to do
Check your fuel pressure, cap+rotor, and wires

Re: No CEL codes, car shuts off while driving
Checked my spark plugs and they look a nice shade of tan/brown so they seem good. I ordered an fuel filter because they didn't have one in stock.... and was going to start cleaning off my grounds but it started raining FML!
Since when did car parts get so expensive? Last filter I bought was like 12 bucks and this b**ch was 27 dollars????
Anyways, I really don't know what else it could be unless my tps or dizzy is shot... And it doesn't happen a whole lot so its not like I can trouble shoot it very often

do the cluster lights illuminate when it dies? or do they all go out?

No this is a 5 speed ... when im driving and it shuts off and I continue to press the gas it makes a bogging sound almost like the car is in 5th gear on a steep hill going real slow, and the RPMs drop real quick when that happens
Just trying to be descriptive as possible with everything just because I know how hard it is to help someone diagnose a problem without being there

because there are multiple possibilities to the symptom, you'll want to narrow it down to fuel related or spark issue.
to do this, install a fuel gauge where it can be seen while driving. on the windshield, under the wiper arm works. when the car is dying/dies, pay attention to the needle on the gauge. if fuel pressure drops out before it dies, it's fuel related. if not, it's likely spark related. this will at least give you direction to further diagnose the problem and we can go from there

Re: No CEL codes, car shuts off while driving
Well I did switch out my fuel filter this morning and drove about 100 miles today and didnt have my car die. Not saying that its fixed because like I said it doesnt happen too often. I will try the fuel gauge thing but to be honest the cut off happens instantly without any warning or studder... I dont even know it happens until I press the gas to maintain speed and notice my car isnt running, so I dont know if Ill be able to catch the fuel drop before the car dies.

that's ok. if it isn't a fuel related issue, the fuel pressure should hold for at least 5-10 seconds or so after it dies. sometimes much longer.

Re: No CEL codes, car shuts off while driving
Ok I'll try it when I get paid... Kinda broke and my schedule is pretty busy until this weekend. My car hadnt died in 3 days after I changed my fuel filter. It died today when I was breaking. the car dipped below the idle speed everytime I would stop then when I was pulling into my driveway I hit the break and clutch and it died.... So after a little research I found out thats pretty common symptoms of a bad Egr.

i had this exact same problem, ended up being a faulty dizzy. Went to the local scrapyard and picked one up for 15 bucks and tossed it in to see if it worked and it fixed my problem completley

Yeah I do know my o ring is leaking oil... Getting it replaced when I send it to get the valve lash adjusted
