Key won't unlock driver side door
My car has been down for a while, so i'm just now remembering that i recall something breaking or there is an issue..
1994 Integra RS
Key into the door lock on the driver side and it does not unlock or lock the driver side door... Anybody ever recall having an issue like this?
From this parts diagram.. what would be the issue?

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
Do you have power locks?
Does the key refuse to turn at all?
Will the key turn only in ONE direction?
Or does the key turn freely in either direction but appear not to be actually connected to anything? (by that I mean: movement of the lock does not feel like it's moving any linkages inside the door)

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
Most likely the plastic clip has broken that holds the lock-cylinder rod to the lock-cylinder and the rod has fallen off. From your diagram it appears to be part of 23-24, and is not available separately. A wrecking yard may be your only option.
Years ago my job required me to spend lots of time at various OEMs, some of whom produced latch- and lock-components for the automakers. I would walk past large bins overflowing with millions of those tiny plastic clips in various colors, and it occurred to me even then that folks would one day be almost willing to kill for even ONE of those clips.

And you do have the option of pulling a whole door-handle from a wreck, which would include that little clip. And all for maybe five bucks...

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
I was thinking about going to the junk yard and trying to find a couple clips for just in case on down the road... Would one from a Civic fit??
How do you get those clips off without breaking them?

Glad you got it figured out. My integra has the same issue and for me its the plastic piece that connects the rods to the lock cylinder, broke off. I think #12/31

Its a tight spot but yes those plastic clips can be removed, with patience. Thats actually a good idea, going to the junkyard and getting those plastic clips for the rods.

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
Or maybe removing the whole door handle assembly to remove those clips would be the second best way following patience?

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
You need good access to the backside of the clip.
1) pull the metal rod out of the clip
2) carefully squeeze the barbs together that are on the backside of the clip and push the clip out of its hole.
After 20+ years, those clips are brittle, so work carefully. Complete removal of the part in question is advisable, since that gives you best access.

Here's my next issue..
When locking and unlocking the door locks manually from inside.. it appears the rods are binding up and it's very sloppy.. almost like it doesn't want to lock, but it will. (part #13 & 33)
I don't notice it when I am using the key from the outside.. anyone else experience this or is there a way to adjust it out? lubricate somewhere?
Thanks for all the replies

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
Its probably binding at the actual lock, probably needs to be grease, thats going to take some patience to get out as well.
I know for the driver side, you need to pull on handle a little bit before manually locking.

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
Did you ever move the interior handle assembly (number 7)? I had a similar issue when I was doing my interior conversion, had to slide the assembly a little forward for it to go back to normal. Also you may want to try lubing the lock and latch area where the rods end up going.
Are you saying remove those screws and slide it forward somehow?

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
If you feel like the rods are binding, applying grease on a lock mechanism wont do anything. If anything on the lock mechanism were to blame, an issue would be noticed from both inside and outside of the car.
Your issue is likely #34 not securing the lock/handle rods in place, the rods being bent, or maybe an issue at the connection of the handle itself. Pop off the door panel to diagnose this one since there's no common issue like this.

Yeah, if you take a look you'll see a few horizontal lines somewhere around by those screws. You dont need to take them completely out, just loosen them and adjust. But as the others said, your best bet is to take the panel off and visually watch the parts move.

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
Its rare that the entire door lock mechanism goes out, usually needs greasing. I think your issues are elsewhere. Only way to be sure is if you remove the door panel and take a look at the rods while attempting to manually lock the doors.

One of the white clips that's holding the the rod in place seems like it fits the rod too tight.. I'll snap a pic and show you guys.. I'm also going to try and loosen the door handle and adjust it a little.
My friend that looked at it seems to think it's the whole latch in the door.. I guess it would be #2.. he put a slight amount of pressure on the door latch (#2) and picked up just a little and everything operated smoothly.. remove pressure and the rod kinda binds and makes a small noise.. it's odd

I'm gonna lube everything up too just in case and install my door panels.
Random question - I don't have the door harness for the plug and play for factory tweeters.. I have two male connectors and they will plug right into the oem tweeters.. I'm going to run these off my door speakers, should i install a bass filter on the positive wire on each side to protect the tweeters from blowing?
Thank you all for the replies and help

Re: Key won't unlock driver side door
Crazy.. I just loosened the screws that hold #7 in place and adjusted it slightly and the problem is fixed... both lock and unlock smooth as butter.

Yes use a filter for the tweeters.
