Issue with temp gauge and CEL pulls 71 and 74
1999 GS-R, OBD2A, 127K miles, t-belt and water pump done recently.
I notice that the temp gauge is fluctuating and nowhere close to warm. Its winter here and the heater is putting out some really solid heat. The car runs and drives OK except I feel like its hestitating when taking off from a stop.
I know the the temp gauge issue is the sign of a stuck thermostat, but then the CEL flashes.
Pull codes and its reads code 71 and code 74 which per the stickied thread for codes:
71 random misfire cylinder 1
72 random misfire cylinder 2
73 random misfire cylinder 3
74 random misfire cylinder 4
-Could a wet distributor cause this?
- Could it be bad gas?
I will get a new t-stat from the dealer and throw it in, but this misfire code is scary as some people suggest it could be bent valves and/or skipped timing.
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks
