I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT!!!
okay so my b18c1 has been burning a **** ton of oil like i’m talkin 5-8 quarts every 3k miles. i’ve done basically everything imaginable trying to fix it and it still burns and ive been so stumped. BUT, i think i figured it out now. (btw if you want more details check my profile for my other threads, this is literally all ive posted abt) So my builder did a **** ton to the bottom end, stock block but css installed, forged internals, race bearings, and a few other things i’m forgetting, but he did virtually nothing to the heads, i say virtually because all he did was install ferrea intake valves. now ive been burning oil for a while and i thought initially it was my valve stem seals, then i thought it was my rings assuming my oil control rings were shot even tho my comp was good. My oil was also black days after a change so that’s why i assumed rings. but i replaced both my valve stem seals and my rings, really the only things it could be right? (other than blow by which i tested for plus i have a catch can) WELL, ive been doing some thinking. There’s carbon buildup in ALL 4 CYLINDERS and all four plugs had burnt oil on them so i know it wasn’t my exhaust valve seals cause the oil burning was happening during combustion, you can probably see where this is going. the only thing NOT stock in the heads is the INTAKE valves, so what im thinking is the stem is slightly skinnier and the oe replacement valve stem seals were slightly too large for the valves allowing oil to escape around it!!!! now my hope is that the valve guides themselves are the right size and me being a dumbass and not checking the diameter of the valves was the problems when replacing worn seals. The reason i’m posting this however is to see if anyone else thinks this could be the case. It’s really all i can think of and if you have any questions they’ve probably been answered by my other threads but if not ask away i’m honestly kind of confused now. this whole motor has kinda been confusing cause the builder said it’s the stock block and heads and they’re both gsr bits but the block code is for a b18c not c1 or c5, just c, as in the import type r motor but he insists it’s a gsr, and the motor was great for about 8k miles and now around 9-10k it’s having all sorts of issues and this is my first b series. idk but ive been talking to the builder and he suggested a bunch of other things but in the coming weeks im going to pull one intake valve spring and check the diameter of the valve stem then compare to oem sizes.
