Heat shield rattle. Ok to run without it?
I had recently noticed a rattling noise coming from my Integra around 3000 RPMs. Did a search here and I guess the heat shield is more times than not a guilty culprit. Removed the front half of the heat shield and revved it in my garage and didn't hear the rattle. I guess that may have been the problem. Anyway is it ok to run without the heat shield? The car is still under warranty, so should I just take it down there with the heat shield back on and let them hear the rattle and tell them I think it's coming from the heat shield? I don't see why it would start rattling for no reason. All the bolts were tight and there were no cracks or anything.

Well I would rather keep it on there as it looks kind of goofy with the stock exhaust manifold. I guess what I am asking is what would Acura do since the heat shield doesn't have any cracks and it is still rattling. Replacing it wouldn't fix it would it?

Maybe it's just me, I'm confused. Are you talking about the manifold heat shield or the heat shield on the exhaust?

i think the rattling is normally from little pices of dirt or somthing geting caught which is what makes the vibrating noise, i say just take it off, thats what i did for mine and i know of alllot of people that do the same.

If its under warranty I definitely would take it to the dealership and let them deal with it. **** if I had a warranty my hands would never get dirty with **** like that!
You shouldnt have any problems running without the heat shield BTW.

The heat shield on the manifold. I removed the front half of it (4 bolts) and it still rattled on my way to school just now. Going to throw it back on tonight and just take it to the dealership since it's under warranty.

Yeah, just going to take it to the dealership since the rattle is still present. I figured I would try and see if taking it off woud solve the problem since that would be an easy fix, but since it is still there they can deal with it.

Would you happen to have an aftermarket intake? If so, check to make sure the intake isn't raddling up against the TB. I had this problem, took off all heat shields, still did it. Finally realized that the intake was causing the problem. Just take it and pull it out just a tad and see if that fixes it!

get rid of it. or are you one of those people who leave your hood open when you park your car? who cares if someone thinks it looks goofy. if its under warranty let them handle it.. why bother wasting yoru time when you can let them waste theirs.

I love warranty's... just let them deal with it. you might also have them check all the other cage bolts for like the cat, etc. My cat sheild rattles... but the bolts are rounded... the previous ouner was horrible at working on cars. I had to rewire my entire sterio...
best of luck.
best of luck.
