Good brand of oil filter to use?

Re: Good brand of oil filter to use? (jdm_bones)
Honda.
And about Fram. At school we cut a few open... 2 out of the 5 that were opened... the filter element inside was not made properly... it was like a straight through filter... that didn't filter at all. I saw no way to Fram. They are cheaply made filters. Oil is so important in an engine... that's why I only use Honda OEM parts and fluids (well for maintenance anyways). Not to mention I get all OEM parts at cost cause I work at a Dealership Still cost $30 for a Honda air filter for my GSR, and thats at cost

Most Civic/Integra OEM filters are now made in Canada, which indeed is made by Fram.
When I used to run OEM filters, I would always insist on a Made in USA filter, which was made by Filtech. The filter construction inside was much better than those Fram POS's.

supertech from walmart. seriously.
it's made by champion laboratories (same makers of the mobil1 filter), and if you compare the two, they're identical, except that the supertech costs like $3 vs the mobil1 $11.
i wish the good filters would make a good grip like fram though.

Re: (atg1290)
my dad had an accord that he never changed the oil in. Just added some when it got low. The car ran for about 80K like that until it reached 278K and a tranny bearing went out.

I dont know about any other aftermarket filters, but the OEM one has a built in check valve that keeps oil in the filter even when the motor is off.

Re: (atg1290)
K&N is to lowest I'll use, and that's in a pinch. I don't even like using the dealer filters. All mine have NIPPON on the side of them.
You're all forgetting one thing with the filters. It's not just how well it filters, but how well the check valve in the filter keeps oil above the filter, keeping you from starting dry.
Oh, and whoever has been telling you that Mobil 1 is better than Royal Purple needs to stop smoking so much hash, and you need to stop listening to them
(sorry if I'm opinionated)

Re: (94BlueGSR)
Honda filters are made by FILTECH or Honeywell, NOT FRAM, the companies may be related(honeywell/fram) but Fram does not produce Honda filters.
cut a fram and OE filter in half, set them side by side then tell me which one you'd want to put on your car. Granted oil filters arent usually a huge priority I always like to put quality **** on my car to avoid faliure/malfunction all together

I'd recommend getting a Wix oil filter. Of all the oil filter studies I've seen, Wix has always been rated in the top 5. Its the only oil filter I'll use on my Porsche as well.

I use castrol GTX since my motor has like 140k on it and it's too late to switch to synthetic safely.
I only use OEM S2K oil filters. They are the same as HAMP filters.

I usually change it once every other year whether it needs it or not.
