fuel filter is leaking, help?
2 months ago, i replaced my fuel filter while changing my oil. amazingly, the parts stores in town dont have a filter for my car so, i have to drive to the dealership, which is an hour away. they only have a WIX filter, so i buy it. it didnt even come with the washers that its suposed to come with, accoring to my searches on this subject. when i was in the middle of changing the filter, the tiny crush washer that goes on the small pressure relief bolt fell, and i could not find it, i used a flashlight and magnet but still no luck. anyway, i put the bolt back in, knowing i could be leaking gas, and i drive to the hardware store a couple blocks away. i get a washer that was as close to the original as i could, put it on, and im still leaking gas. actually, its more like pissing gas out of the top of the fuel line so i drive to the acura dealership to buy a main fuel relay, which is going bad, and i ask a mechanic if he has the washer i need. he has one, and im happy that this bullshit is going to finally end. i get home, put on the oem crush washer... and its still pissing out gas. wtf. now im mad. i take out the bolt, and i buy some jb weld, i rinse off the bolt/washers and dry them, put some jb weld on the bottom of the bolt head, and around the small and large copper washers. after letting it sit all day to dry, it has formed a perfect seal. i put the bolt back in, with the new washer, and what do you know, its still leaking im getting sick of this ****. the threads on the bolt are NOT bad; the bolt goes all the way in and out without ever getting more difficult to turn, and visually the threads look perfect. how the hell could it still be leaking? hopefully somebody else went through this and can help. gas is $3 a gallon and rising, this is lowering my mileage about 4-5 mpg.

so its not supposed to have replacement washers? is your car a g2 or g3? i think the posts i found in the search mightve been g3s, and the filters are different. i dont know how it could be an error, as far as i know its a straight forward job, just unbolt the lines, put the lines on the new filter and its done. unless theres some procedure me or my dad dont know about. this is very frustrating

Ive done tons of honda fuel filters and if you dont crank the hell out of the upper bolt, it will always leak. You cant be afraid to strip those things, ive never had one strip on me yet and ive tightened that SOB EXTREMELY tight.
And if it still leaks, try what everyone else said....teflon tape. I wouldnt want to be drivin unless it was an emergency...to much risk of fire as you probably know.
OH, and a side note: what dealer did you get that filter from? Acura of brookfield? Im suprised it didnt come with a gasket.

Wrap the bolt about two or three times and tighten the bolt as much as you can. did you do this?

yes i have those. the second time i tightened the bolt, i torqued it so hard i had to have somebody help me get it back off. i guess my only option is to get teflon tape.

jesus h. christ in a chickenbasket, it worked. at first i put two layers of the tape on, and it still leaked slowly; it took about 10 seconds for the bolt to become wet. then i put about 2.5 inches of tape around the thread, and it doesnt leak now. im so relieved now...especially after being told that the reason a coworker wasnt at work today, was because his old *** crown vic started on fire and destroyed his garage and both vehicles
thanks alot for pulling through HT
