Icon3 first teg, gsr with a type R engine swap

Hi, yeah i have a 1998 acura interga gsr and i recently just dropped a b18 type r in it and i just recently finished get her in and connecting everything and plugging all my stuff back up, i have already checked all connections and they are all correct but unfortunately car will not start by key, i can only start it by bypassing the ecu by jumping it, any ideas of what it can be would be great, thanks

It starts when you jump the starter? does it stay running after you get it running?

If the engine starts and runs after he hot wires the starter than it's not the PCM. It would be either the ignition switch or a "main" relay. To the best of my knowledge Honda didnt have an imbolizer that wasnt part of an alarm system.

2000 and 2001 Integras have an immobilizer. There was no factory alarm available for any Integra.

What he^ said. Thats obd2b.

FCM has a great write up on how to troubleshoot the ignition system. Should help direct you on where to look. All the no start threads and guides should also help you eliminate things by step. Start from the bottom and check things off. Youve confirmed that it starts so its not ignition itself.

I wasnt aware of the imobilizer on the 2000-2001 integra I thought they started doing it on the RSX. you learn something new everyday right.

The immobilizer is the only reason I still have my 2000 GSR.

Thieves had a master key of some sort. Door opened, ignition turned to on, no sign of forcing locks. They even ripped out the rear seat looking for the fuel pump kill that I don't have (assuming) when they couldn't get the car started. ECU was pulled out, assuming so they could either use their own or to look for additional security, but that obviously didn't work either.

The same thing happened to my GSR but mine is a 95. The police recoverd it a few days later with no damage or missing anything it was pretty weird.

you can either run p73-a04 which has the immobilizer for the 2000-2001 itr or bypass it and run a jdm ecu. there's a guy in the itr section asking about selling his p73-a04. price wise the p73-a04 is the least expensive of any usdm itr ecu with common sale prices in the $100-140 range versus 2x that for p73-a02

what i don't know is what's involved in making it work and if the dealer needs to flash anything or what a person does

He has a 98 though so the immobilizer is a non issue. If you were just responding to the subject then i withdraw my comment.

you're right, somehow i had the idea he had a 2001!

p73-a03 is the correct ecu for a 1998 car

and or a jdm p73-013 would work too, they just have the 120mph speed limiter

What do you mean bypassing the ecu by jumping it? Jumping what? Bypassing how? What type of ECU are you using? Does the car crank? Be more descriptive. Easier to trouble shoot that way.

Also...check the small spade connector on the starter. Make sure there's good contact there.
