Engine knock B18c1
Just the other night I was heading home from work and noticed a dreaded knock coming from my engine.
The noise is most prominent between 1700rpm-2200rpm. Here was no major symptoms leading up to this point. My belt would squeal on start up when cold. The car has 212,000km.
The car is going into the shop next week but I thought id come to the Honda experts first to see if any of you might have a idea of what to look for.
I uploaded a video to give you an idea of what I'm dealing with. Any feedback would be appeciated. Thanks

sounds like a spun bearing, sorry to say but thats a major fix, on the plus side ive known of hondas mostly h22 that will knock forever withut letting go. how capable are you at working on your car?

I'm what you would call a hobbyist do it your self-er. Motor work is over my head, and I'm not willing to risk damaging the engine further to try and save my self money. Anyways now I'm rambling.
Thanks for your advice.

actually its probably a rod bearing, if u want u can drop the pan and see if maybe u broke a rod bolt, if the crank is out of round it will probably cost more to fix than it would to replace considering your taking it in to be fixed. labour + machine shop u might as well just buy a new one. the more u drive it the more you will hurt the crank. if it were mine i would replace all the rod bearings and use arp studs and hope the crank isnt screwed. maybe just get your mechanic to confirm it is indeed a rod bearing and try replacing it it wont cost much to try that and if it goes again then u know the crank is toast and u can decide from there, tell me do u beat on your car? do u race it or is it just a DD.

It's used as a daily driver. I rev it up now and then. Recently I've been keeping the revs and speed down to save the rest of my suspension and steering components lol.

I've owned the car since 163k. It had a bad oil pan when i bought it and I had to add oil every day for the first week before I replaced it.
I'm very conscious of all of my fluid levels.

Just thought I'd update this.
I had the car in today and the engine is fine. He catalytic converter blew up and bits and pieces were rattling about in the casing.

Re: Engine knock B18c1
My next step was to drain the oil. I took some advice from a co-worker to check the exhaust first, luckily for me is was easily apparent once the car was in the air.

Re: Engine knock B18c1
Yea I wouldn't have said rod bearing, as it doesn't constantly do it or go with rpms. It just kinda rattled at a certain rpm.
I am by no means saying I would have guessed the cat. But definately didn't seem like a thrown bearing.

I was pretty much hoping for the best, but was prepared for the worst lol.
It still needs some TLC to get it where I want it to be, but it's getting there.

Re: Engine knock B18c1
I may look into a cat back system in the future. I just hate loud exhausts, so It would be hard to commit to any brand.
