DC2 RPM stopped working but ECU sees RPM
Just ran into a problem where the RPM gauge on my cluster is not responding but the ECU is seeing RPM. I verified this using Smanager.
A few days prior when I would hit VTEC my RPM would go all over the place all though the engine revved fine. It was just the gauge needle whacking out. Now it doesn't do anything at all.
I'm not entirely sure how the cluster gets it's signal. Does it come from the ECU or the distributor? I did get a new distributor not long ago but everything seems to be fine and working correct.
Do I need a new cluster or is there another location I could check. like I said, I know the ECU sees the right RPM. I thought maybe a ground problem or something.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

your ICM is going bad it starts with radical jumps in rpms on the tach like its going wild then it will die after a short while as it wont give the tach the signal. Its inside the dist. very easy to replace.

First try crimping the wire clips sometimes they get loose and loose there signal use a needle nose plier and pinch the 3 plugs that plug into the icm.

I ended up re-securing the plugs and the the connection pins at the distributor plugs. I swapped the plugs on my engine harness side when I swapped the motor. Just made sure everything was together and plugged it back in and the tach works again. Hopefully the problem is resolved. Thanks. I'll check the ICU plugs if the problem persists.

It was prolly the blue tach wire loose on the distributor plug.
