Cant remove spindle nut
How do I remove the spindle nut on the back?
It says on the Helms manual to
1)pop off the cap
2)raise the locking tab on the spindle nut
3)remove the nut.
What do they mean raise the locking tab?
Im confused.
Im trying to replace my wheel studs myself and I thought I could bang them in and out without removing the hub.

the locking tab is not really a tab. if you look at the nut, as long as whoever touched them last did what they were supposed to, you should see a little keyway on the axle, and the nut should be dented down into that keyway.
so what you have to do is knock that back out of the keyway, and then you should be able to take the nut off.
if you are lucky. two days ago my friend broke his snap-on breaker bar twice trying to get one axle nut off. we ended up drilling out part of the nut and smashing it a lot with a chisel to break it loose, then we had to pound the axle nut socket on and reef on it with a ratchet and a long long piece of pipe.

Re: Cant remove spindle nut (warrick)
Would it be bad if i keep banging on the stud? It seems the stud wont sit on the back of the hub. Does the stud need to be seated?

Get a big ratchet and a breaker bar that fits snugly on it. position it parallel to the floor and jump up and down on it till it loosens up. Sounds crazy but it worked for me.
And be careful not to hurt yourself.

That means you need to unstake it from the shaft because if its not unstaked the nut won't be able to be removed because its jammed with the shaft. Use a flat beaked screwdiver and a hammer to unstake the nut.

Re: Cant remove spindle nut (MITSUBA)
I did this on both sides about two hours ago! get somebody to stand on the brake pedal, get a good big breaker bar, 32mm socket and SWING out of the bar. Support yourself well and don't fall over when it cracks. The nut will usually pull itself straigh out of the groove. Or the piece tabbed down can sometimes break out, when you're putting it back on, if you're using the old one and it's broken, just swing it on a little further and tap it down with a good drift punch, or a blunt screwdriver
Edit...And had I read ur post properly I would have seen you said back!!

If you have a have a Habor Freight near by, run by there, they have some pretty massive breaker bars.
Oh yeah, don't skip on the socket. Higher quality sockets really help. With cheap sockets, they don't grip as well and all your force goes to waste. A quality socket that grips well really makes a difference when busting tought bolts/nuts.

Re: Cant remove spindle nut (sibanez)
I just use my impact socket 32MM and my gun, breaks lose on full air and 15 mins. of vibrating, lol. Sometimes I just use the bar when I don't feel like dragging the compressor out, its too big. Goodluck
