burnt valve again??!!
evening h-t,
i'm looking to see if anyone can solve why i got another burnt valve. it's a gsr engine with 22x,xxx and basic bolt ons. it happened in cylinder #3. when it happened the first time, we figured it was the piston rings cause of the massive black smoke covering my rear bumper. took off the head and saw it was a burnt exhaust valve in cy. #3. i replaced all valves with supertech flat faced valves(the black coated ones) and all new gaskets, etc.
after i got it running again, it ran great, but then after a couple of weeks it started to struggle when going uphill and it still kept smoking(black smoke). then i let my friend borrow it for about a month. it was still running pretty good when i let him borrow it. don't know what he did to it but i got a call from him saying my car is f***ed up. drove it back to my place and it felt just like it did when i had the burnt valve. we disassembled it, and it turns out it was the same damn exhaust valve in the same cylinder(3).
my question is what caused the same thing to happen twice?
any help is appreciative.

Re: burnt valve again??!!
agree with everything stated, also did you check the guides for run out? typically heavy oil burning OR valve lash too tight is what kills exhaust valves
if it was a lean cylinder you would see it on the spark plug
btw if you want some obd2 240cc oem injectors i have something like 7 or 8 of them in my honda parts box you can have for $20 plus shipping

Re: burnt valve again??!!
thanks to all for the replies. i haven't had time to go check the plugs since engines at my nephews house, but i know for a fact the engine was burning oil. i'd have to add quarts every now and then when i was driving it. i have a feeling oil is getting past the guides or piston rings. not sure if it is the injectors as well. how do you check for bad injectors?
