Default Burning smell while in vtec?

Well I got my synthetic oil change from Acura yesterday and the car ran fine all day. This morning I wake up and drive to work, but towards the end of my commute I started to smell something burning. I pulled over and realized it was my car so I let it sit for a minute or two. I drove the rest of the way to work but everytime I would hit Vtec I could smell something burning. This has never happend before and I am semi-worried. Has anyone experiance this or have any insight into this matter?

Do you mean like on-fire burning - or does it smell like oil burning? Do you have white smoke coming out of your exhaust?
If they put a bit too much oil in - this could be the reason.

and on a personal note: start changing your own oil man. its not complex - and youll save some cash. also, youll know the job was done right, and the right amount of oil is put in. this problem wouldnt exist. just a thought yo, certainly not critisizing

I would but time is my issue. I work full time and go to school full time along with many other things going on. I drop my teg off before I go to work, they give me a loaner car and I pick my teg back up after work. They charge $24.95 and I buy my own synthetic oil. "Time is money" sorry had to use a saying ! I will check my oil level tonight when I get home from work. Thanks man!

Oh yeah! I do change my own oil in the summer time! Not defending myself here just explaining why.

What kind of oil did you have them put in? That may give you the answer right there.

Mobil 1 5w30 burns while in VTEC in my car, or used to, when I used Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 10w30 did NOT burn, not even on the track (road course).

I have never had the same smell I had with 5w30 M1 while in VTEC. Several seconds later I would smell oil burning. Not substantial, and definitely no smoke.

Those who have oil burning problems use Castrol GTX 5w30 with much better success. Or schaeffer's.

I'll never use M1 again after seeing how much oil I'd burn on the track. And no, I don't have a oil consuming problem, compression/leakdown tests were very good. Thin oil, only gets thinner after a few thousand miles....

I have the same problem with my b16a when I rev the motor up quickly. A lot of ppl in the EF forum have mentioned this problem. I use Mobile 1 10w30. but I dont burn much, when I drain my oil I get about 3.5 qts back out after 3000 miles.

they might have just spilled some oil on the block and it might be burning it off, give it a few days and if it continues then consult the dealership to see if they noticed anything wierd.

I would like to say that if you can't find the time to do your own oil you don't deserve the car nor consider yourself a car nut. How many miles are on the motor because if you have been using regular oil before synthetic IT DON"T DO ****. Was the burning smell like pork fried RICE? Might want to check back with the dealership to ask what happened to your engine it did come with one right? If all else fails pull out the old bike and trot to work and school in all actuallity you might get there quiker!

I have been noticing a similar problem in my car it smells like plastic burning (kinda). But it only happens every once in a while and have not been able to diagnose. HOPEFULLY NOT RINGS.

Wow! All this for a simple question?

Now back on topic:

The oil I used was the same that I used for my last oil change (BMW 5w-30) Should be the exact same as regular Mobile 1 but is repackaged with there name and used for their oil changes. Before flames come in I get a very good deal by the case and it should be the exact same as mobile 1 so please don't flame me.

I did not smell any burning from the last oil change so that is why I am semi-worried so I guess I will just take it back to the dealer to have them figure out what they did wrong because I did not see any oil on the block or any spillage. The oil level did seem a little higher then normal as per the dipstick so I just assume they put too much oil in.

Thank you for all of the relative coments to my problem. I appreciate everyones replys. Thanks

Well I think its a combination of the oil being a bit overfilled, and the fact that its mobil 1. I overfilled with Mobil 1 synthetic one time - and it burns for a while until its at a more acceptable level. I wouldnt worry. If in a week you have the same problem, Id discuss it with

Possibly your PCV valve????

Or else its the oil weight, I used 0-30 mobil1 and burned like 5-6 liters between servicing, but changed to 10-30 just before my rebuild and it only burned 3-3.5 liters at most. then after the rebuild and i had broken in the negine again, i still got the burning oil smell which turned out to be a blocked PCV valve, so check that first and then work from there.

the HAWK...you are a complete *******!
lunatik....you are an even bigger *******!!!

I think everyone is thinking too hard. My car always stinks like burning oil after an oil change. If they changed your filter, it's very likely they spilled oil on your exhaust. It's probably just the oil burning off the pipes...
