Default B18B1 Compression Test Readings

I did a compression test today to check out the health of my car for potential future turbocharging. I pulled the spark plugs out one at a time (fuel injectors and fuse were left in, oops) and then cranked the engine for about 3 seconds per cylinder. I'd say the engine cranked somewhere between 8-14 times per reading. It is a 1995 Integra LS with 149,500 miles and I did the compression test right after changing the oil and filter. The readings were:

135-140-136-125

Isn't that bad? I have a spare B18B1 sitting in my garage that got readings of 195-200-195-200. That seems a lot better.

Yeah, warm up the engine before the test. Also remove all spark plugs and remove the 15amp F/I fuse. Also make sure the throttlebody is wide open. TRy again and you should hit 170-180. HTH

Your low readings are most likely your gauge and how long you crank the engine for. If you cranked it for like 10 seconds the pressure would be up there. As long as the numbers are close your ok. 125 and 140 are getting a bit far apart tho..

just because you can get up to 180psi (or whatever it should be) after 30 cranks, doesn't mean it's healthy.

like a few have already said, you want the engine to be at operating temp. and at WOT when you check the compression. a healthy engine should get to its recommended pressure after at least 7-8 cranks.

for the b18b1, you want a max. difference of 28psi, a max. psi of 199, and a min. of 140psi. ideally, it should be around 180 straight across.
