LS Compression Test
I just did a compression test on my 94 integra LS and i got the following results:
cylinder #4 #3 #2 #1
hit 80 80 80 80
peak 180 175 140! 182
ok, so now I think that I am DoEs AnYoNe KnOw WheRe I CaN GeT SoMe StRObE LiTEZ AnD LiGhT uP WiNdShiElD NoZzLeS??ed, so I go over to my friends house, and we do another compression test...
cylinder #4 #3 #2 #1
hit 80 80 80 80
peak 110 115 112 110
OMG, here comes the tears!!, he pulls out another guage to test it with again and comes up with this.....
cylinder #4 #3 #2 #1
hit 80 80 80 80
peak 130 135 133 135
So my question is this, what is going on here. The brand of the first compression tester was a sears one, the other 2 i am however not sure about. What is the "Normal" results from a compression test on an LS? How bad am i screwed!?!?! Thanx for the help. BTW I dont have the turbo on yet, it is in the mail...thanx again Ben.

"DoEs AnYoNe KnOw WheRe I CaN GeT SoMe StRObE LiTEZ AnD LiGhT uP WiNdShiElD NoZzLeS??" aparently cursing is not aloud....sorry about that.

its all good. welcome to HT
last time i checked my compression i was about 180-185 on all four cylinders and i have 130k+ miles....i would think it would higher but atleast they are all close. retest if you can to make sure your readings were right. You did it on a warm engine right?
i was always under the impression that there was no set number during a compression test just that the numbers were supposed to be fairly consistent on all four cynlinders.
That is true but you still need a certain amount so the car will start in the future. I just think the 110-115 is really low. I am the first to say though, i am not an expert in any way jsut stating what i feel.

lsinteg,
You're right. If an engine doesn't have a certain minimum compression, then it won't start. The absolute numbers DO tell you quite a bit about the overall condition of the engine.
More-or-less even numbers across the board is important, but low numbers are not a good sign. It usually means the engine is worn out.
It might also mean the engine was cold when tested (metal parts expand and fit more tightly when they're hot), the gauge was off, the gauge wasn't in tightly enough, valve timing is off (slipped a gear or two on the timing belt), or a bunch of other things.

Ill try it again with the engine warm, the first time the engine was kinda warm. The other 2 times it was ice cold. I will do another test this weekend, and post the results, thanx alot for everyone's input.
yes your engine has to be warmed up completely. for some reason the fans turning on and off twice comes to mind so do that!!!
i've done compression tests when my car was warm and cold. always comes out to 200 across the board. people also say you need you have the throttle fully open to get the best numbers..yet again more bs. compression should be around the same numbers whether the engine is cold or warm
I did my compression test several times on a warm engine and always got very consistent results.
Maybe something is wrong with your tool?
Also try putting some oil on the o-ring that should be on the tip of the tool - maybe it fell off after the first test?
Let us know how it goes.
