Icon2 Is it a b16a or b16b type r ?

I hear a statement " b16a doesn't come in RED top,
If its red top it's a b16b type R or a b18c type r"

Is this true??
Thanks.

it's easy enough to paint a valve cover. i wouldn't go by that.

Lets assume it is unaltered, clearly not painted after manufacturing.
Would this be right?

are you serious... just look at the block stamp. i swear people are ******* idiots.

the head can either be painted or swaped out from a b16b. the heads are just about the same, the block is what is different on the motors.

Casting marks exist for a reason. Both the head and block are stamped with their designation codes. You can google how/where to find those and what they mean. Basing the head/block on the color of the valvecover is ridiculous. They can so easily be swapped out or painted.

Most Ferraris are red; therefore, all red cars are Ferraris? No...

if you have a b16a its an sir1 / 2 motor. b16b is the ctr motor.

-of course I know about the block stamp, what i wanted to figure out is if it was true that this is how they were manufared, sort of in a color coded classification kind of way.
just curious

Its rare to find a unmolested CTR or B16b motor, Usually the cams are taken or the head will be swaped ect. Great motor though. The trans will differ as well. The type r's came with a Red top but thats not the correct way to identify them, you must at least look at the head stamp and block stamp and also make sure if the internals have not been taken or swaped which can be some work. you get a b16a thats a civic si a b16b is the civic type r, big difrence.

there is no such thing as red top or black top. stop using those terms. valve covers are easily swapped. takes all of 5 minutes.

the b16b block is physically different from a b16a. it's basically a destroked b18c.

Yes, the cams would make a slight difference. The magnitude depends on what else was done to the engine. Only a dyno can tell you the actual difference.
