antenna's.. are they always up?
i just noticed, that even when the radio is off.. "powered off" the antenna is still up, and even when the CD is playing. is this normal?
its a stock factory radio.. so im wondering if the antenna on all cars are wired to accessory? i think its gay. i want it to only come up when the radio is on.

this is not normal, if the wiring is factory stock, then it should only go up when the radio is on.
Sounds like you will have to check the wiring on your headunit to dash harness.

Now, find the power antenna wire, which is yellow with a green stripe. Cut it, leaving enough room to solder or put a quick-connect, and strip the wires accordingly.
this guy says its a yellow wire?
:edit: this was for a switch inline with the antenna to manually shut it off.

Cutting the wire is Ghey...... Not to mention Ghetto.
All you have to do if you have the stock head unit is disconnect the power from the power antenna in the trunk. if you want it switched, just pull out the power antenna wire from the (Blue aftermarket) from the harness, and make a switch.
BTW, I wouldn't bother will all this trouble, the stock deck sucks anyway, so just change it to aftermarket, most of them are intelligent enough to only send the power antenna signal when the radio is on. Other wise make a switch like I mentioned earlier.

aftermarket's aren't ''smart'' enough to do that...its just part of the harness...head unit on- antenna up...thats it, no way around except for s2000 conversion or a switch

Dude, my Alpine deck could do this. Now my Clarion VRX935VD dvd does this too, nothing special about the harness.
I agree not all aftermarket decks can do this, but some can, it just knows when to send the signal to the power antenna Blue wire on the aftermarket harness.
If you never want the antenna to go up, just do not connect that blue wire when installing your deck.

the antenna unit is shot, you can wither replace the unit, or do the s2000 conversion. Here is a link with some info:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=943246
as for fixing the wires, if your head unit does not have the original harness, that can unplug, then it most likely has been messed with before, and cutting and sodering might be your only option.

As stated before, the antenna should only be up if the head unit is active. If the head unit is not on, the antenna should be down.
My antenna recently went dead and stayed up. I took time to document the cause and solution to this problem on team-integra. you can search for it if you wish, but it is common problem due to poor design.

Re: (deejaycherub)
the integra head unit DOES keep the antenna up in AM/FM/CD mode.
aftermarket decks have separate leads for antenna and the amp switching lead. my sony lowered the antenna when playing CDs and most others do, too.

Yup my Kenwood will also only raise the antenna when it is switched to radio. If you switch back to CD it will go back down.

yep, most every aftermarket headunit will do this

Re: (shogun-dc2)
Just replaced my antenna after it had been ripped off 3 times now from various stuff (car wash twice, a flying shingle another time!). Both times through the car wash, the antenna had failed to retract :\ what a pos.
Personally, I think the stock one is ugly, and being powered, it's only extra weight, and moving parts. The flexible replacement was only $7, it looks much better to boot.
took me about an hour to remove/replace it, and the new one works better!
replace it with an aftermarket or s2k.

Re: antenna's.. are they always up? (Built B16A)
ok.. so ive come to figure out, that OE Acura decks dont' have a radio signal for the antenna, its hot once the deck is on.
now, i know my pioneer in my EG hatch has a antenna lead, (blue wire, and already knew it was for antenna's) but i would of thought Honda would of thought about this when it comes to radio's?
that sucks.. either a switch, or new deck.

Wierd, my stock deck in my RS only made the antenna go up when the radio was swtiched on. When playing a CD, it retracted. My new Rockford deck also does this, only when i switch to the tuner does the antenna go up

Re: antenna's.. are they always up? (94SlowTec)
if you do a search on H-T, there is a thread containing a "how-to-create" manual switch (located in the storage console for controlling the antenna.
