id actually like to know what entails in a tune up as well. like what do they do? ive been wondering about this since my car just got to 70k miles. its a 95 btw.
so will the dealer help me out or will i have to go to a private mechanic who wont rape me on the price?

there really isn't tons to do for a tune-up. change the oil, trans fluid, fuel filter, air filter, in your case you should have new spark plugs and wires, new dist. cap and rotor, new coolant. also should spray some carb cleaner into you IM to clean the **** out. valve adjustment as well, i may be forgetting a few things, but that's a good start.

That's about right for what I do when my car is in need of a 'tune-up'. You might do a seafoam or top engine cleaner treatment through your brake booster (search 'seafoam) - that's probably what the dealer meant when they mentioned 'carbonating', they just wanted to clean your fuel injectors.
However, most garages/dealers that offer a 'tune-up' service usually would only do your spark plugs, dist cap and rotor, and maybe fuel filter for around $50+. But transmission fluid, oil, coolant, valve adj, fuel injection service, and air filter would all cost extra.
Good job with the GSR Pat, my car is 2 years older than yours and has 50k less miles. But my commute is only 35 miles, but it takes me an hour and a half to get there. Avg speed = 40mph, mileage = 340/tank before gas light usually (~32mpg).

Re:
Is it just me...or does it seem like since the gas prices rose, the quality of gas seems to be better. I've been noticing better gas mileage since the prices rose, but i might just be going crazy...haha...or maybe i'm lighter on the pedal because i'm tryin to save gas...haha
Before i've gotten 300 - 320 and Lately i've been getting 320 - 330 on a tank crusing the highway at 75 - 80 mph (about 80% highway), but as soon as the light comes on i fill her up...it's on average about 10 gallons every fill up. By the way...my odometer is at 180,xxx miles and i'm still on conventional oil (contemplating if i should finally switch to synthetic), plus i'd say another 5,000 miles because i had a messed up VSS plug, so my odometer and speedometer wasn't working for about 2 months.
all original internals (except for ITR cams), had 80 shot Nitrus for about 6 months earlier in her life

Re: Amazing picture (2G0S0R1)
yeah, i used to enjoy getting 35 mpg without ever going on a highway, but for some reason i cant get close anymore. yes, the gauge does go down much faster after it hits halfway. i used to go about 350 miles before the gaslight came on, which means i had 2.5 gallons left(approximately). does anybody have any ideas on what i can check to see why my gas mileage has dropped? im not complaining, i still get like 28, but i used to never see below 30, even after track days.

The usual culprits are dist cap and rotor, tire pressure, old spark plugs, old plug wires, old fuel filter, clogged injectors, and dirty air filter. Check all of those out and see if it helps.

Re: Amazing picture (purplegsr (Exospeed))
the plugs/wires have 10-15k on them, i regularly clean my aem intake filter, a friend of mine advanced my timing a little, which didnt change mileage or give a noticeable difference in performance. ill replace the cap and rotor and fuel filter to see if those are the cause. do our cars have the filter by the tank on the bottom of the car, or are they in the engine bay?

Re: Amazing picture (benb18a)
Fuel filter is in the engine bay, it's really easy to get to and is located behind and underneath your intake piping. On 90-93 both fuel lines go into the top, so changing it is very easy. On 94-01, one goes into the top and one on the bottom, so it's a little harder, but still easy.

how much would an old catalytic converter play in gas mileage. i've done all the required maintence ie (plugs, wires, injectors, cap, rotor, fuel filter and o2 sensor) I used to get around 375 now i'm struggling to get 250.
i'm really amazed with patricks car i have the 5k less miles on my car and mine behaves like an alcoholic lol

i would most definetly replace the cat if you are at that mileage. i can't imagine it would be functioning very well, probably clogged up etc. i don't have a whole lot to back this up on though, can anyone else provide some more insight?

I guess all the bolt ons, I, H, E, test pipe and K&N cone filter, plus the recent tune up and valve adjustment contribute to the great mileage. And with the cool air lately, it is hard not to rev it out alittle more than usual. Oh, thats not running the A/C, or it would be around 320 a tank.</TD></TR></TABLE>
in my experience, bolt-ons always decreases fuel economy. I attribute my fuel economy largely to the fact that my engine is still stock, and has always been stock. I've never had any bolt-ons on it at all.

odd, you sure it doesn't smoke and doesn't leak? The oil's gotta be going somewhere. I lose maybe 1/2 quart at the MOST over the course of my 3K mile oil change intervals.
But anyway I finally filled up tonight, 399 miles on 11.66 gallons = 34.x mpg.
And my car turns 200K tomorrow!
