98 Integra, car stops on freeway, now wont start
98 Integra LS. Stock. Friend said his car stops working on freeway while in motion. Towed it home and now car will not start up. I checked it out and found out the timing belt is not turning. I took off the timing belt cover and see the bottom crank case pulley is cranking but the top is not moving. Belt is still tight on the head cam pulley but is loose starting from the middle to bottom. What could be going on?

LoL, did you try pulling it out?
I did the same on my brothers car once, I said well, the belt is still on tight, until I yanked on it, and it came off.
If that's not the case, your tensioner probaly went bad.

I tugged on it pretty hard and it won't budge. So probably tensioner you said? He is having the car towed to my house soon. I'll open it up and see what messed I find. I'll keep updates. Thanks.

You probably won't be able to know until you remove all the covers that hide the timing belt. I had the same thing happen, and the belt had snapped, but it was still firm at the top. The block would still rotate since you don't see the entire picture.

Woodruff key and/or crank sprocket busted maybe?
If you keep cranking it like that you'll just continue bending valves. Be prepared to pull the head and replace valves at the very least, possibly more.

Say, I took it out, broken tensioner or ripped belt, replace, and installed everything back on. What are the symptoms of bent valves?

Took off belt. Found out the teeth on the timing belt were scrapped off. That's why I couldn't pull the belt out. Replace the belt, put every thing back, car won't start. Ran a compression test, now I've concluded cylinder No. 4 has NO compression. The other 3 has 170-180. Do you think one of the valve in No. 4 cylinder is stuck open?

Did you reset the timing when you did the timing belt? If so it sounds like you have a bent valve. Only way to know for sure is to do a leak down test.

I turn the crank gear to line up as Honda said. I line up the two cams gears so the "up" is pointing up and the teeth is lined up with each other. Adjust tension. Got good tension. The motor now runs, but the gas pedal has to be held down and it's really loud when it runs. Sounds like a fully built nascar. I did not let it run for long. Maybe 20 seconds at the most. I left it like that, he took the car away to a shop. I'll update from time to time if he updates me.
