Re: 1994 Integra LS/VTEC For My Daughter
Last night I bought a Moroso oil pan for the build. Found a guy on face book that was selling his. It was powder coated black. I like it at first but then I decided I wanted to paint it myself
The oil pan powder coated black
Pretty dirty
Stripped the paint just bare metal
Top view of the bare oil pan
Painted VTC metallic sliver 3 coats of primer and 4 coats of base 4 coats of clear coat
Looks so much better

Re: 1994 Integra LS/VTEC For My Daughter
Well, plans changed a little. My Daughter asked me if she could have the AEBS Sleeved B20Z2 Block I was trying to sell on Christmas. After thinking about it for a few days I let her have it and removed it for sale today. So here is the block we will now be using on her B20/VTEC build

I can relate to this build, as I'm doing one for my son. At the end of the day it will be his car, but as I've been around Honda builds for 20 plus years it requires me to do all of the part sourcing and installation work and "donations" to make it happen. I get satisfaction from doing the work and making sure it gets done to the highest quality. Having bought many parts over the years, lots were duds and some were good quality, so it helps to guide our kids away from the crap out there so they don't make the mistakes we did, lol. Building a car for your kid is just as fun as doing your own IMO. There is a great deal of personal satisfaction from it too.

glad to see more updates. That looks beautiful, well done. If it was me I would have skipped the titanium retainers, as they tend to wear faster than oem, as long as one knows that and replaces them as needed then they work fine. The valves look amazing.

I'm not a metallurgist but from what I've read Titanium is not as hard as steel when used for retainers. Titanium retainers are lightweight and work well for performance, well suited in a race engine where they may get swapped at a certain interval, steel retainers are meant for longevity. Many reports of broken Ti retainers out there ruining engines when they fail. Ti retainers are lightweight primarily used on engines that are meant for high revs to reduce chances of valve float.

That's correct they are not as hard as steel so they wear sooner. How' soon well that depends, on a lot of things, usage, punishment, other components, ETC. But for her, it's her daily to college till we get her other car we are buying from a friend and her weekend track car. Plus We have other cars she can use should there be any issues. I plan on checking the retainers about every 5,000 miles or so. that's barely 7 months of driving for her. So I am not too concerned about it but very aware of the potential for failure.

That's perfect, as long as one understands that they are useable parts then it works fine. Too many people install them and forget them and then issues arise unexpectedly. They are parts that come out of the racing industry and are meant to be inspected and swapped at appropriate intervals. Sounds like you understand all that ahead of time and that is great.

Damn, I'm going a very similar route myself, so I'm excited to see how this pans out. What cams do you plan on running? Keep up the great work!
