102k...when should i change my timing belt?
my accessory belts are squealing like stuck pigs, so i went to the shop and they recommended changing the timing belt at the same time. they said they could do it all (belts, water pump, tensioner, etc) for $500 or so.
i have 102k miles now. i think i'm overdue, but i was wondering if i could hold of until july or august when uncle sam sends me my next big fat student loan check. any risk if i autox on it all summer until then?

Yes, It should have been changed by now...usually at 90k miles. I personally wouldent autox with it or drive it too hard until its changed.

manufacturer recommends at 105k with normal driving... most people on here say 60k, others say 90k. I got mine done at 95k.

I'd pull the valve cover and rotate/check the belt. But, even if it looked ok, I wouldn't risk making a big mistake by driving it hard and abruptly letting off or snapping the throttle shut until you can get it replaced.
If you've got a place down there, I can do it for you. Altho, I don't know how many house calls I should be making b/c I just found out that I've got a leaky headgasket that I need to get changed out. It's not real bad, but if I get in the block and find out my bore is out of whack, it's rebuild time again. Could be a lot of downtime, especially with other stuff going on in the garage.
Or, if you don't mind driving up here, we can do it for you up here. I'd have to ok it with John and you would have to pay for the garage time b/c it's not my garage. I'd be doing it for free beyond that. PM me if you wanna work out some details.

The service manuals changed...probably in 1996.
The '95 manual states 60,000 miles.
The '98 manual and '97 ITR supplement state 105,000 miles.

as said before, check for wear on the belt. Dealer here recommends changing it at 90K and changing the water pump and oil pump.

that is an incredibly nice offer.... gotta love HT members helpin each other out!
And yea... i got my timing belt n waterpump changed at 102k and my belt was pretty damn worn. I would get ur timing belt done as soon as possible.. don't risk it... its jus not worth the potential damage that could be caused if the belt slipped or broke.

check your owner's manual, as mentioned above. My '97 manual says 105k.
