My friend is about to buy and engine that has an "genuine" Mugen valve cover, but knowing the seller I'm calling BS that he would spend the money on such a rare and expensive item (he has PIAA lights and Altezza's on his car for godsakes!!) so how can I tell if it's really a Mugen valve cover and not just a knockoff??

 

The N comes up and almost touches the bolt hole.

i always distinguished it by where the N ends. on the real cover, the N ends at the middle of the #1 cylinder spark plug hole..

dumb fact that everyone prolly knows, but the real ones only come in that gunmetalish color

not red, blue, green, orange, yellow

 

bottom right spark plug cover bolt... real is between the E and the N

 

So this is a real one?

 

I hope its not since he would have painted it blue. This car was so horrible. JDM rice at its summum.

 

That is real. You can tell because the N begins right about at the same spot where the spark plug cover bolt is at. Hard to explain.. but the valve cover looks real.

the M on the real deal is alot sharper looking, while the fake one the M is kinda fat.

 

That blue one looks real to me.

 

on the pics in the 2nd post the lettering dosent even look raised on the fake. is it just the angle, or am i completely crazy

the kanji from the real one and the fake one are different. i just noticed that..or maybe I am going nuts..haha

 

the kanji looks the same to me, just the lighting makes it look funny.
that blue one and the polished one both look real to me. plus that blue one has spoon plug wires too, so looks like he's spending money on the car.
