Falken FK-451?
So, while in Topeka I noticed something peculiar......
a couple of the fast STX WRX drivers are running the 245/40/17 Falken FK-451 shaved. word is that the FK-451 is a multi-compound tire.
I dunno, Hoppe was running them and he came in second in the finale. :shrugs:

i wish i could fit 245/40/17's on my car...
so the FK451 is crappy on top, azenis on the inside? what about the multicompound made it a desirable choice?
i'm still trying to find a way to put 245's on my stx car, but i don't think it's gonna happen.
about to give in and go with 225/50's or falken's 215/45 (which is more like a 225/45) on a 15x7 or 16x8...

Well, that's what I heard too. I remember Tom and Shawn bragging about shaving some time with the FK's ... and they are running them at the Pro Finale. I'll ask them when they get back.
PS - buy my wheels: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=984349

I don't see any huge improvement over the shorter 215/45/16 Azenis. Tread width is only .1 more than the Azenis.

A lot more choices in sizes, however. But nothing that benefits the FWD cars that the Azenis doesn't alreeady offer.

If you look at the 225/35/17 there is some nice features about it though. 23.2 diameter to start with and thats with full 10/32'nds of tread. It is 8 tenths wider in section width and 4 tenths wider in section width vs. the 205/50/15.
You also can get rota 17x7.5" wheels very cheap and they are only 15-16" if I remember correctly. I used to have a set years ago.

I spoke with a fellow competitor in STX and we both never knew the 451s were the almost the same compound as the Azenis. I wish I had some more time to run about paddock and look at some of the setups.
Now I'm looking at that tire in a 16.

245/35-17, not 40. The 245/35-17 is no taller than the 225/45-16, and significantly wider. It's also pointless unless you shave it to 4/32's so the tire will be more like 23.7" tall to begin with. Not exactly outsane height.
The 245/45-16 would be a stupid idea. If there was a 245/35-16, then yeah. awesome. You're not going to handle better with the ride height and spring you'd need to run just to get a 245/45 anything to clear the fenders legally in STX.
