Seats: Answers to alot of seat questions
To the 999,662,876,543,321,088,543,678,049 people that is going to ask this again........
The answer is (ONCE AGAIN) you will need to make modofications to ANY SEAT (civic, integra, s2000, etc) that is not in your year i.e.
EF seats are year specific as you will find that ALOT of things are this way.
**88-89 Civic seats are ONLY interchangable with 88-89 Civic seats.
**88-89 CRX seats are ONLY interchangable with 88-89 CRX seats.
**90-91 Civic seats are ONLY interchangable with 90-91 Civic seats.
**90-91 CRX seats are ONLY interchangable with 90-91 CRX seats.
Do you get my drift....... CRX and Civic seats ARE NOT interchangable. For example: 90 Civic HB seats WONT fit into a 90 CRX and vice verse. Seats are one of those year specific things. And once again, ANY other seats will have to be modified.
I put '89 Civic HB seats in my '90 hatch and I had to swap seat pans and then I reversed the seats (drivers on pass side and vice verse). I didn't have make any brackets or anything. My own write up for what I did: (this is copied from back in Jan. '04)
In my case I had 88/89 Civic Si seats going into a '91 Civic Std.
*Took the seat apart (2 halves top seat bottom seat
*I took the rails off my STD seats.
*Took some hog pliers and removed the clips holding the fabric onto the seat.
*pulled the fabric back (not off)
*pull the cushions away from the seat pan
**Did the same thing for the Si seats**
Then,
I took the Si seat cushions and put them onto my '91 Civic Seat pans. I noticed that most of the Honda seat pans are the same, but mount in a different spot. So I just used my seat pans.
I got part of my idea from a guy on HT that put s2000 seats in his civic by swapping the seat pans. Then Usdm 4g vtec did something similar. I put 2 and 2 together and Voila!!
I am so happy though. Those vinyl seats nearly cut me up. It took me about 1.5 hrs on one seat. Then, when I figured out how easy it was, the second seat took me about 30 minutes.
HOLLA if you have questions about how I did this.
This is the thread that gave me the inspiration to do the seat pan swap. He gives you a general idea of how easy it is. I had never done anything like this. With the EF seats you may have to switch the seats around (pass & driver) when you get ready to put the seats back together you WILL see what I mean. And sometimes it works out better that way, especially in my case because the passenger seat was in better condition than the drivers seat. Anyways, on to the link:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=347548
maybe this will become a sticky one day
Everytime I come across an illustation or thread with CORRECT (not hearsay) info about installing seats, I will add it hear. Or if anyone know links add them here so that NOOBs can stop asking this question.

yea, those seats are my fav ef seats usdm. I did the same thing 89 crx si seats in my 88 crx dx, because there are , now dont quote me on this, but i belive there are 89s that are bolted like the 88 and like the 90-91, it seems like nobody ever wants to search for the info, so maybe this thread will end it, but u know it wont, but good thread.
it sucks when u change ur seats to integra seats by switching out the pans, because the integra seat ends up sitting WWWWAAAAAAAYYYY reclined when its supposed to be in correct upright position though, and i think the only way to fix it is if u cut your recliner bracket and re-weld it at a better angle
*edit* this is with 94-01 integra seats

are you sure about this? i thought 88 and 89 crxs were different, cause the 89 has the belts on the door... sparco even has different part#s for the 88 and the 89 bracket.

Thanks for the replies people..There is a gray area with the 88-89 seats, because from what I heard some '89's come with belts in the door and some don't. Also canadian cars are kinda in the different arena too.
The red car in my avatar is an '88 std hatch and it has '89 Si seats in it for sure, no fitment issues. So thats why I can vouch that '88 seats and '89 seats are interchangable.

I am sorry, but I don't understand what your reply is implying.

89-91 crx go into each other

yO T-Mo you didnt swap the driver and pass. side seats b/c u wanted to, it was cuz u HAD to, right?
The 3rd post from the top of my write-up on a how-to swap pans https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1062869 was my question to peeps who have done this swap, Did you have to swap driver and pass.? I guess u confirmed it that you have to, at least on 88-91 HBs. I did 90-91 Si seats in my 88 HB.
Also can anyone confirm this statement???? <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by SilverCivic2k »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">...honda uses the exact same seat bottoms for it's seats with just different mounting points </TD></TR></TABLE>
