Default D16y8 intake manifold better than the D16Z6?

I did a search and could not find anything. I wanted to know if the Y8 intake manifold yields any power gains on the D16Z6 engine. Thanks.

Yes it does. However, the Edelbrock IM is much better and is worth teh cost, since you are obviously looking at a well built engine if you're considering a IM swap.

no not really. I can get a Y8 manifold for 20 dollars from a friend. How much power can I expect to get from the Y8 manifold over the Z6 ?

$20 is a steal for that manifold. Get it.

so i'm curious to see if the gains from a y8 mani. will be noticeable.. and if so.... would there be any gains from putting a y8 head on a z6...

okay the d16y8 IM is know as the type-r IM for the d-series, it has shorter fatter runners. On the other hand you want to keep the d16z6 head because it flows better, the y8 head makes up for this by uping the compression slightly due to the constraints of the combustion chamber. so if you put a d16z6 block and head with a y8 IM thats the best setup FOR THE MONEY, you can always get a skunk2 or victorx/edelbrock IM. Which have better gains but of course cost more, if you want to gain some good power throughout the powerband get a nice cam and cam gear. The zex 59300 it doesnt "require" new retainers and springs but it is still a good idea to get them and you will make around 9 hp through the powerband and 5 ft lbs of torque thats more than you will get with the IM and you wont lose your bottom end likeyou would with the IM. if you have any more questions you can hit me up or just ask here i am bored
