Default Car storage question

If you are storing your car for 5-6 months, is it best to leave it resting on the wheels, or should you put the car on jack stands.

My concern is the tires being damaged (out of round) if they weight of the car rests on them in one place (i.e. storing car and it never moves).

Anyone?

Thanks in advance :-)

put it on jackstands and put some fuel stabilizer in with a full tank of gas. Also disconnect the battery. This has been covered A LOT lately especially with all of the people being called up for military service. Do a little searching.

with modern radial tires, not really an issue, the best thing is to keep a load on the suspension

I beg to differ..anyone running any real tires is going to have issues letting it sit for so long. The ride gets a little bumpy with my s03's if the car has been sitting for a week. I think 6 months would ruin them altogether.

If you're on some crappy touring tires or something then don't bother. Let em sit. But they may crack.

this may be the case, but the consensus is that it's bad for suspension to be dangling in the air. I'd rather ruin some tires than suspension.

The tires won't get "ruined". Far from it. I keep my NSX in one spot that long every year, sitting on the good OEM tires. When I first drive it in spring, the tires feel lumpy driving the first couple of blocks, then they're just fine. Not to worry...

(I keep the battery hooked up to an automatic charger. I don't bother with fuel stabilizer (e.g. Sta-bil) but it's not a bad idea...)

I always suggest over-inflating the tires 5-10 psi while the car will be in storage. Helps prevent "flat spotting" them.

Yeah, good practice, Mike. I over-inflated my Azenis last year before 5 months of storage. No flat-spotting in spring.

My fuel stabilizer... http://www.schaefferoil.com/datapdf/131.pdf
