Default Launching Technique

As of recently I didn't feel the need to frequent the track, but after losing my license I have lost my F&F mentality. With that aside, I visited the track last week. It was quite crowded so I only got 2 runs in. Besides being nervous as all heck, I just couldn't get launching down. I know I should be lower 14's, but my first run was a 15.6 and my second was 15.3. I was upset and threw the slips somewhere so I can't tell you much more than that at the moment.

My setup is:
96 B18C Converted to OBDII at the Distributor,
Then back to OBDI for Hondata s200.
B&M Shifter
Fidenza 7.5lbs Flywheel
Spec Stg. 2 Clutch
Drive Shaft Shop Stg. 1 Axles
Phantom Grip LSD
Comptech Ice Box w/ Type-R Elbow
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Hy-Tech Header 4-2-1
KTeller.com 2.5” mandrel Bent Exhaust
Magnaflow High-Flow Cat (not installed)
Moroso Spiral Flow Pre-Muffler
Magnaflow Alluminized 4” x 9” x 14” Oval Muffler
Tein SS Coilovers

I have slightly worn Nitto 450's, when I say slightly worn I mean still streatable but I know I need better tires for the track. How should I launch? I was dumping the clutch at 2-2.5k and spinning like there was no tomorrow, in turn when I hit second gear it would bog. I need to get tuned, hopefully I will order tires tonight. Should I go with Azenis? Much help would be appreciated.

*Overview*

How should I launch?
What tires should I purchase?
How should I set my suspension?

Its really kinda hard to tell what you were doing wrong or how fast the car should be going without seeing your 60ft and mph. I'd say get some BFG drag radials if you really want to cut a somewhat decent 60ft. Then go from there.

I believe one run was 2.6 60ft

The 15.6 was at 89.x mph, I thought the run was over so I shut down. The second run was 91.x I think.

I went to the track once without VTEC, a cheap 4-1 B16 header, stock clutch/fly, D16 AEM short ram, and 2.25" powercore cat w/ tanabe exhaust and went 15.03@94.x.

Do I just suck at life or what? HAHA.

well i can kinda see what you were doing and i see so many people do this at the track....you launched the tires spun as soon as it hit the redline you shift then it bogs it bogs because the tires are spinning badly but the car is only go like 10-15mph and then you shift so of coarse it gonna bog....so next tim when you launch let it spin a little like feather the thottle and then when you feal it catching gun it.....hope this helps.

Ok, so I think I understand the concept of feathering the clutch. Is that what I should do? Man I feel like a kid, HAHA. But oh well. I was out in the boonies on the way home from a friends house, I stopped, revved to 4k, slowly let off of the clutch to get me rolling while at the same time allowing the RPM to accel also, then I released the clutch and didn't spin. It seemed better, but I always thought that would hurt more. Is that a better way of doing it?

So if it breaks loose, kind of "half throttle" it until it gets traction then hit it?

take your car out to the boonies and punch on it until your shift point.. look at your mph right before you shift.

whenever you feather your throttle, you're not exactly sure when to shift so look at your mph, that'll be like your second rpm gauge

hope that helps.
