The official 5 speed swap thread.
Because i am seeing more of the preludes out there wishing to go fast i figured i would set the record straight once and for all. I followed the list of things that people post and find that they come very very short. This is not a cheap swap. Nobody metioned alot of the stuff that is different. Some of these parts like the hard line can come from an Accord and will work just fine such as the hard lines and the pedals.Seeing as how i just went to the headache of doing it when my timing belt broke. I thought it would be helpful to list everything needed.
here goes:
tranny
ecu(try to get same year)
shift box(bolts from auto shifter don't work, so be sure to get ones that come with the manual shift box)
cables( make sure to clips that hold them in place)
master cylider
clutch resevior
hard line from sc to Clutch Damper
slave cylinder( the above hard line is sperate from this so don't forget both)
pedals(full clucth assembly, and just the brake pedal)
the bracket that bolts to the tranny to hold the cables in place (w/ clips)
starter will not line up(get new)
half shaft( autos do not have this piece and neither do junk yard) (230 dollars from Honda
)
new CV joints
transmission mount should come with tranny but in case it doesn't get it
Vehicle speed sensor will not line up get 5 speed
clucth
flywheel(same year as motor, trust me) the ones from 92-93 are different than ones from 94-96
throw out bearing( even if tranny comes with one get a new one anyway)
shift ****,boot and possibly covers for pedals
That should just about cover it, oh and be sure to get all the right size bolts
some are just different from auto to manual.
I still haven't figured out how to hook up reverse lights yet but am working on it.
If i have forgot anything do not hesitate to add comments
This is a difficult swap to say the least
If you have any questions or comments email me at william.tallman@usm.edu
Thank you and remember one thing.

Are all the mounts on the chassie of the car the same from a 92s auto vs 95 vtec?
I know on EG Civics the upper trans mount is in a different location from auto to man.

Is anything different for the fifth gen? I am planning to do the swap, but I had no idea that it was going to be so complicated. Is there a good place to try to get most of those things? In the end about how much does it cost?
the mounts should be the same seeing as how i dont see Honda welding different mount points for the tranny. But i really dont know. i know the flywheel is different so be sure to get your year. I almost forgot, the ecu does not have to be changed. However to clear up any controversy. the auto comp is slower so the car will be slower than a normal 5speed comp. The tranny is controlled by the tcm located next to the ecu. let me know if you have other questions

i used the local Honda mechanic that has been doing swaps for years to get my parts. you might try a junk yard or online. Cost
1000-1500 dollars but it is worth it.
