What are the steps to welding cast steel? I want to try out limit straps up front.
I want to try out some limit straps on the front suspension. Kinda like the pic below of which tony1 did on the deepstage civic. I remember seeing a post where someone said to keep an oxy/acet torch on the cast fork to keep it hot enough so that the weld will take since it'll cool too fast if you dont keep it heated. Any other tips??? Is it possible to MIG weld the cast, since Im not able to use a TIG cause I dont have one. Thanks.

why dun u take off the fork and weld it on that way. less metal for the heat to disperse and so it might not cool as fast. i would MIG weld something that thick. oxy/acetylene and tig would be the best
I wish this was my car!!! This is a pic i snagged from another thread. Tony1 did the fab work on this car which is the Deepstage civic racecar. The peske's are nice, they cost some coin and I'll never get to the point that I need them on my streetcar

ive welded cast before, with a mig.
you heat before, weld, then heat after. i actually have the honda welding class manual (my dad works for honda of america) and thats what they say to do.

your best bet for welding to cast is using an ARC and nickel rod. You can mig but you need to heat the part with a torch to about 5-600 degrees then use high heat and alot of wire and weld away. why this isn't the best way it will work. Good-luck

Thanks for the replies. I pretty much guessed thats how its done, but wanted a couple more opinions. Next question, does anyone have any pics of MIG'd cast welds?? I really dont care how ugly it is, the strength is what really matters but im interested in seeing how it looks.
Thanks guys.
