Default Why are people choosing K20 swaps?( k20 vs H22 )

I don't understand all the hype with K20 swaps. Some one clear this up for me . WHy are people choosing the K20 instead of H22?
Are'nt H22's an easier swap and less custom work ?
Are they not rated practically rated almost the same Hp output.

I bring up this question because I will be possesion of a Gen3 integra which is in need of a drivetrain and considering all my options.

People want to swap K20's because they think it will make them cool if they can say they have a K20 civic. In reality, any B or H series motor will pull just as good for cheaper. But no bling bling factor I guess yo!

The head and block design are alot better than the H or B.Im sure the H can get nearly the same power but it uses extremely large displacement and less design/technology.B series will never be able to get the same power as a similarly modded K because of head design..roller rockers, straighter ports and bigger valves.Plus the bore spacing is similar to an H,which means over 90mm bore.Plus..a 2.4 is just a block swap away.

I got my EK with a K20 Turbo and all I can say is aurhghhhh "drool".......sorry about that. But I also have an EG with an H22 both motors are stock. The K20 is turbo and the H22 has NOS. I'll tell you right now that I would drop my EG in a heart beat, add money, and trade for a K20. Way more horsepower and as stated above, the H and B series will never amount to it. If your going to compare.....do so apple to apple. Same mods on both and then check power output. Also, by the time you mod up an H series or a B series.....sir you have just spent the amount a K series swap would have costed.

K20 is the way to go... those h22's are heavy straight line bitches... and now that the k has been out for a while, the aftermarket is really opening up to them.... as soon as availablity goes up and the price goes down, you'lll see alot more k20 civcs

Think about this....the last B & H series was produce in 2001, as years goes by, those are really hard to find and ridiculously people start to price them so high. Back in 1998 or 1999, I could find a complete, low milage B18C1 for $1500, but now those are $3000 and the milage is at least 60K or more. On the other hands, K-series was produced in 2002, and soon it will widely available at any junk yard. The good parts about K-series is that Honda put them in practically every late model car; RSX, Civic SI, TSX, Accord, Element, CRV, and so on. Similar to the B-series, most of the parts from the same series will be interchangable. Now that we have more option to choose from.

Never said better. Bottom of the line is how much do u want to spend. There is nothing wrong with a H and with GOOD suspension will hand out *** in AutoX. Its just a matter preference. Also the K's respond amzingly to headwork!

Bullshit. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about.

From what i've read and heard, the K20/K24 just has more potential due to, as stated, newer and better technology. I have heard that the K20/K24 hybrid w/ cams, pistons, tuning, etc.....can hit 300 hp N/A ! You just can't do that w/ a B- or H-series motor.

BUT, imo, they are just not worth the money and work involved......at this time. If they get much cheaper in the future, then MAYBE they will be worth it. But until then, I just consider them a good, yet overpriced swap.......much like the B18C5 or the CTR B16.

I agree that the K series swap is a great swap but too expensive as of right now. For the amount of work that is involved in installation and the price (for me anyways) its just too much of a headache. I'm gettin an H22 installed in a couple weeks and I know ill be completely happy. For the performance and the price it cant be beat.

also agree. when the last of the warehoused jdm itr's get sold the B market will become even harder to find clean examples of. still when you figure $2500 for an itr long block with 40-75k miles or a k20 for maybe 1000 more, it's not hard to see why people are going K. they are newer, have more potential....did i mention newer

personally, if i wouldn't have had a b series itr trans already in my dc2 i would have done the k swap rather than the $2500 itr engine i'm now driving

when this thread was created, an h22 swap was easier, and probably more accessible. now K's are abundant and swap parts are also, and cheap. K is the best bang for the buck as of right now.

Yeah, they are expensive but you can build your own K24 block / K20 head, if you look out you can do it affordably, and the H22's stock dyno charts aren't nearly as impressive. Not many people look at dyno charts anymore. It doesn't matter if your engine is making 200+ hp. How long does it take it to make that power, and how fast is it going to drop off? The cam phasing of the K series can adjust the valve lift for optimal power across the whole RPM band. The H series is only optimized for 2 specific peaks (before and after VTEC kicks in)
