Default Help me troubleshoot my prelude, h22 swap won't start

I recently swapped in an H22A in my 92 si after a few rod bearings from the h23 showed up in the oil pan. I changed the timing belt and water pump on the h22 while the motor was out. I dropped everything in, plugged in the harness and went to fire her up and it would just turn over. I thought it could have been the plug wires because the ones that came with the motor didn't feel like they clicked into the sparkplugs. I got new ones and that wasn't it. I've got fuel, lord knows that, the cylinders just fill up with fuel when i crank it. i used the h23 distributor with the external coil so i think that may be the problem (ecu not being designed for the external coil or something) or i redid the timing wrong or something. I would throw the h22 dist on but the plastic prong that's supposed to connect cyl 1 broke off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

no check engine lights

I just put in the h22 distributor with a spare dist cap i found on the floor in my garage (prolly from my brother's integra LS) and it still wouldn't start.... it turns over, it just won't start. If my timing was off, wouldn't there be a check engine light?

alright, so i checked to see if i got spark tonight and wouldn't ya know it, no spark. I only tested the h22 distributor though, when i went to test the h23 dist, a battery terminal broke off so i gotta stop for tonight.

obviously ignition....

your whole 'ecu not designed for external coil' thing makes no sense USDM h22as have external coils as well. JDM are internal but's it's just a coil...there's nothing different about the ecu that I know of.

I have used a jdm p13 on my usdm h22a1, so that is definetly not the problem.

Pull the coil wire from the distributor and check for spark there.

ok, i swapped over the h23 dist with the external coil and i got spark but no luck still. I think it may have something to do with timing. I may have set it 180 degrees off because when i go to start it, it cranks and sputters but won't start, maybe because the ignition is firing when the piston is at the bottom instead of top or it's firing on the exhaust stroke. Any other ideas? I'm going to try to rotate the timing 180 degrees tonight.

right, so i just just went through each stroke and my motor is timed perfectly. at tdc, on the conpression stroke on cylinder number 1 (that's the cylinder closest to the timing belt), the arrows on the cam gears are pointing up while the notches are aligned simultaneously with eachother and the level of the head. WTF mate is going on here? I verified which stroke it was on by watching the cam lobes on the intake and exhaust cams. The ignition must somehow be off.
