Default Cam gear tuning..TODA Bs in B16, how far can i go with clearance???

I got a wideband but didnt put it in yet How far can i go with advancing the intake cam with no clearance issues???

Toda b cams in a b16 with stock bottom end.

I dont want to go to the dyno with this setup again. i went the first time and made about 173 peak whp with 0, 0 on the cam gears.

Here is my dyno plot from last year:
http://www.jdmuniverse.com/for...18010

I wanna try the intake cam to +4 and possibly retard the exhaust to 0. I think i have enough clearance???

Right now its at +3 intake and +1 exhaust, 18 timing.

thanks for any info

3rd that. I had my Toda B's advanced all the way on the intake side using Toda cam gears. Not on purpose, but they losened themselves. I had no piston to valve contact, and this was in a B16A SiR II w/ stock p30 pistons. I don't think you should have issues with p30's or PR3's, or even CPT's for that matter. I just clayed my motor with CPT's in them, and the intake side advanced all the way up (well, 15 degrees crank advance, almost all the way) still allowed proper clearance. The exhaust side is a different story though, the exhaust side retarded to 15 degrees mashed the **** out of the clay.

Whats the lift on the Toda Bs? How much advance until valve to piston contact with 12.2:1 CR (CTRs)

12mm lift. thanks for the info. just trying to find out if +4 is too much with my pistons and revving up to 9k. im thinking i should have enough clearance.

I went +5 intake, 0 exhaust with 1st gen toda gears.
Made most peak power but lowered my peak power from 8800 to 8200.
I'd try that and you should be fine... i even had a mugen headgasket and no clearance isssues for me.
Nice numbers out of a stock b16 tho.

****!, what did you peak at? and did the midrange really spike that high with the intake advanced that much??

i noticed the biggest difference when i put the exhaust to +1 and kept advancing the intake. its at +3 now.

Some wideband tuning this week and im happy to leave this setup alone....

Jersey, i would just try diffrent setting with the gears at the dyno... mine just liked those settings.
I had like 90% tq at 2000 rpms all the way to 8200+.
I topped out at 180/120 at the wheels, but i think with bigger injectors and diffrent throttle body i wouldve gotten more.

^^^^ thanks.

yeah i hear ya about going to the dyno. i did go once and the tuner left the gears at 0, 0.

although the dyno shows whats the best curve, ive just been calculating my second 1/8 mile at the track which is 3rd and 4th gear. i got 5.25 seconds and slower with most settings, but now with +3, +1, i got 5.12 seconds. im building a block so i just got the wideband and alittle messing with the intake cam is helping me big time.

180/120 is great. im surprised you peaked that much before 8500 rpms and 90% tq at 2000 rpms is great.

i just need alittle more midrange to get me to the top end faster. +4 on the intake might work.

i have a bored ITR TB and 310 injectors.
