so i took my new gsr over to a friends house who has a type-r so he could look over the car and tell me what problems i have. amongst the usual valve cover gasket, cam seals, oil pan gasket, i had been having problems shifting and getting an occasional grind on downshifts. specifically, especially when driving hard the gear lever just won't notch into gear. double clutching doesn't work, nor does rev-matching. sometimes it won't even go into 1st at a dead stop, but a blip of the throttle with light pressure to the lever will do the trick. driving around like your average joe schmo and it seems to be fine, get on it a bit, and it becomes a bugger.
first thing we did was drain out the old transmission oil to see if there was any brass (synchros) or other metal (gears) bits in there. nothing, although the oil was thin as water and black as night. so new honda MTF was added, which drastically improved shifting, and it hasn't grinded on me since. but i was still having the same problem.
next we checked to see if the slave cylinder was doing anything, because it's almost like the clutch isn't fully disengaging. slave seemed fine, and clutch fluid is full, so the lines aren't leaking anywhere.
after that was inspection of the motor mounts. my friend checked them, and said the one on the drivers side was fine, but one on the transmission was toast, and the other one was starting to go bad. would this be the root of the problem?

without cracking it open and looking, i say it's fine. it doesn't slip in any gear, maybe engages a little bit high, but nothing abnormal. also an acceptable amount of slop at the top.

all gears, even 5th is stubborn and won't go in sometimes. i can't see any reason for the 4th-5th synchro to be worn.

if the MTF didnt do the trick with grinding; throw some Syncromesh FM in there... I had a REALLY bad grind in my y1 w/lsd and it took it away. It doesnt fix the problem but it sure will baby it for a while and make you *think* your tranny is good as new.
Good luck bro!
