Default integra steering rack on eg?

i have a steering rack from a 95 GSR that im trying to fit on my 92 si.

ive read posts on here of people making this work, but ive removed the steering column and have been trying to get this damn thing to work on the garage floor before trying to do it on the car....and its not working.

so, does this actually work? and if so what do i have to do to get it to work?

If both cars have power steering its a bolt on affair, its
when you start mixing and matching that it gets to be a
pain.

I never have tried to snake one through the subframe,
I always do it when the subframe is already off the car,
but that minght be a bit more work then you want to do.

It will work just fine, however there are a few issues. One is the presence of power steering equipment (if you don't have power steering). To some this isn't an issue as many don't care if a little dust gets in the rack. Another issue involves the actual removal of the rack from the car. I've found that it's just a hell of a lot simpler to wait until you have the engine out before trying to swap a rack.

A much quicker rack. You'd be wise to check out the specifics of each and every one before commiting to any particular rack. I'll be putting an Integra Type R rack in a DX hatch next week.

Just did the rack on my eg, put 01 gsr rack in my 93. worked fine its also alot easier to do it with the motor out/i did it with the motor in. I had to remove linkage, header, exhaust piping. It was a bitch, u also have to customize the bracket that holds the rack on the passenger side(redrill a hole). Also need the nuckle from the integra that hooks up from the steering rack to the steering column and its good. The car seems to steer way better since my tie rods were shot. but have fun it took my like 3 hours to do it. does anyone know where i can get plugs to plug the power steering lines since my car does not have power steering.

Im replacing the one that was on the car because it was damaged in an accident. there is nothing from the firewall up except of the front frame rails so i have no problems with working room.

however, the rack that came off the car had all the lines and a resivor for p.s. so im just assuming that it had power steering.i know the gsr rack is also p.s. but it just does not fit. is it possible that a 92 si came w/o powe steering?

Can we assemble a list of parts needed to do this swap, besides the rack itself?

I really want to put an ITR rack on my cx, but I don't want to have my car torn apart and find out something isn't going to work, or that I'm missing a part.

I searched the archives and I couldn't find any how-to's or anything.

well i gave up on the gsr rack.

the problem is the pinion on the civic rack is about 3-4mm smaller than the pinion form the integra rack. So, the integra pinion just does not fit into the joint on the end of the civics steering column. i took apart the civic rack and it looked ok so i just swapped over the tie rod ends and called it a day.

I find all that really hard to belive, or maybe im just not understanding
what your talking about.

I have had many different steering columns on my cx rack. Meaning
all the knuckle joint deals on the end of the colum have fit on the
non power steering rack. Ill check tomorow since I have it all appart
again, but I just find that really hard to belive.

My how to:

First off, you need to know what generations came with what rack.
94-01 Integras are the same as the 92-95 Civics. 96+ Civics have a
totally different style subframe.

Non-Power Steering Rack----->Power Steering Rack
Power Rack of your choice
Subframe from a power rack

(You can make it work supposedly, but I tried, and it viberated like
crazy around 25mph turns. It was too ghetto for me, so I swapped in a
power subframe. If you have a welder, you could just switch brakets, you
will know what im talking about once you compare the two.)

Power Steering Rack----->Non-Power Steering Rack
Manual Rack of your choice
Manual Sub Frame
(Again, its just a heck of a lot easier with the subframe. Espcially if
you are trying to do it when the engine is in the car.)

No, im not going to write up some diy. If you cant figure out what bolts
to take out, sorry your on your own bub.

Why you would want to do this:

If you want more hp, you can take out your power steering.
It makes it a bit hard to turn, so some choose to use a manual
rack to make it easier. A power rack, that has had the power steering
removed, is a lot harder to turn then a manual rack.

If you want improved turning/feel, the power rack takes less turns
of the steering wheel to get from lock to lock. The ITR being the
shortest.

But I have a solution to all of this. Just need to get off my butt and do it.
Untill then, its a secret!

hmmmm......Im going to have to dig up my stock
column. Maybe all you need is an integra knuckle
deal (no idea what that thing is called).

If thats the case, ill send you one if you pay shipping.

so to put a type r rack in an eg, you would need the rack, rear crossmember, the column, and the knuckle? With all that, it would be a direct replacement?

im not sure if the ITR rack is different from the non itrs. a lot of things are different between the models so i cant say for sure, but probably that is all you would need.

what do you mean by rear cross member?

You wont need the column. Its that knuckle joint or steering
joint that is the problem.

but that just confuses me even more.

I have used many different columns, and i always
leave the joint on the column. They have all worked on
my 92cx civic rack.

I have done this before integra gsr and type r steering rack into civic cx.. u need the nuckle and that solves the problem. u just need to redrilla hole on the passenger side bracket. Everything else is fine.
