After some serious consideration, I'd decided to change turbos that would be a bit more effective in a road race application than all out power. After a trial run at South Bend and at Gingerman, the GT35E turbo that I was using seemed to lag too much coming out of the apex into the straights. Once I hit the straights, it was great for about 6 seconds, then I'd have to slow down again, and possibly deal w/ more lag. I could care less about Drag Racing, so I decided to go with a different approach.. I'll be more than likely using APEX'Is Power FC and switch out the Hondata to work with this application for Road Race and Time Attack. Thanks again to AUTOWERKS and STC for helping me get this off the ground.
So, thanks to a great friend of mine in Japan for helping me out on some shipping, I introduce to you:
The HKS GT3037 "AKAI" TURBO!!

This is a true dual stainless steel ball-bearing turbo capable of just over 550hp with an anti-surge/ported-shroud compressor cover. This is a GT30R w/ GT37 turbine. 76.2mm 56 Trim in a .60A/R utilizing an 84 trim exhaust side squeezed in a .63 A/R instead of the .82 A/R housing.
This is the turbo compared to my GT35E standard journal bearing turbo.. Notice how even after 6 months of hard use, the turbo still is clean.

The older GT35E that was replaced....

Please let me know of comments and concerns regarding a ROAD RACE application, for I'd like some feedback and not just about Peak "***** out" power, please....

Very hot man! More and more people in the Honda world are using the ported shroud compressor cover. My buddy used a very similar turbocharger and thought it had too much lag for his application. I'm sure you will be happy with it though. "Around" how much did this go for?

Just out of curiosity , which .63 housing is this . I have only ever seen one GT30 .63 AR turbine housing and it looked nothing like your one .

You might not have seen the .63 A/R with an HPC high temp coating on the exhaust housing. This is used to dissapate heat and keep it from having that "rusty" look over heat and time.
Keep 'em comin'!!

Hrmmm...I dunno.
I've heard Art talk about HKS turbos before, and I'm not very impressed. They are basically rebadged Garrets that they sell for a couple $1000. Nothing too special at all.
You said your previous 35E was a .82ar? Well thats why there is so much of a lag difference between the 2.
I don't know the price that you got hooked up for, but to the average consumer it is much wiser to just buy a GT35R ball bearing and save a lot of money VS the HKS.

No. I didn't pay the typical HKS Garrett Price for this turbo.. this was a favor for a friend of mine in Japan. I didn't want the GT35R Ball-Bearing for a particular reason. I am fully aware of the difference between the GT35R and the GT3037.
My original turbo was a GT35E in a .63a/r 4 bolt housing not a .82...... Please re-read my orginal post..

To be honest it looks like a Straight Garrett 3037S. I was under the impression HKS casted their own turbine housings and stamped the Garrett compressor cover.
