Default 1991 Accord Probem really weird

Hi Guys,

I went over to the Parents house today and dad and I were going to work on the 1991 Accord to see if we could get it running at all. The guy we bought it from told us the car just starts whenever it wanted to and usually it starts when it's cold and after that it wont. I got into the car and it started right up. Over a period of about 2 hours I started it about 15 time and it ran like a champ no problems at all. My dad came home and told me that it was amazing it worked every time I tried because the distributer cap was just barely hanging on, it was unscrewed and everything. Anyway, we replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, spark plugs, and put new valve gaskets on. Went to start it... nothing..... It would turn over but not start at all. How is it that with the cap hanging there it started no problem, everytime and now all that stuff is new all tightened and it would start? Any ideas? Thanks.

O yeah if anyone has any Z3 fenders for a 91 accord let me know I'm interested! Thanks so much for the help!

well dude first check if u getting spark.
take off the spark plug wire and put a screw driver in it then put it so it makes contact with the car chasi. then get someone to start the car. if u see spark then there is nothing wrong with the distributor. if u don't see any sparks then something wrong with the distributor(it might be cap or the rotor)

Yeah, there is plenty of spark going on. We also tested the coil, and fuel pressure and everything tests out fine. I can also hear the fuel pump when I turn the car on. Any other ideas? Thanks for the help.

Not that I am trying to help someone out who is selling their stuff in the wrong forum, but there is someone selling the Z3 fenders in another post on this forum.

My opinion

Called Auto Zone today and they were 35.00 and I don't have to wait for them to be shipped but I really do appreciate the offer! But I'm watching one on ebay so if that doesn't work out then I'm gonna get that one.

Hi,
Yeah it's on the right way. This was happening to the guy even before I bought the car. Thanks for the idea! I really need to get this thing on the road. I'm still gonna try the relay though as soon as I can get one, hopefully tomorrow!

Hey guys,

Put the relay in today. The car didn't do anything different. The only thing that I can see that it might have done differently is when the car turns over it just doesn't turn over but it sounds like it might start. It sounds like it is catching a little then quitting. It does start sometimes though and it only does when it's cold. When I go to rev the car it cuts out when I put my foot on the gas for a second and then it catches and revs. Any ideas?
