is it against the law to put an non srs wheel on a car that came with one?
just curious. I like the non srs jdm wheel and wondered if there was any law against putting it on a 01 model? thanks
no. just a law mandating manufacturers to include SRS bags to newer cars after a certain year. taking them off and replacing it with a non SRS is legal in all states.
btw, you will need to inform your insurance company unless you want a voided claim

check with your local laws. Last I heard it was illegal. The airbag is a safety/life saving feature. Removing it is like removing your seatbelts. You can do it, but it's not legal to drive that way. For track or show use it's fine, but not on the streets. I'll check around, I have a few police friends and relatives, as well as insurance agents, I'll see what i can find out.
Edit: Well, supposedly it's somewhat legal in Texas...but I had read that it wasn't in Cali.

My friend had a non airbag jdm steering wheel, and he got into an accident. He lost 2 teeth on the wheel. I wouldnt use a non airbag wheel, but a lot of people will tell you different. Each to his/her own

Just wondering.. how did your airbag deploy if you weren't wearing your seat belt? I thought they only deployed if you had your seat belt on.

I have the JDM ITR SRS wheel and I love it. It's deffinitly smaller in diameter than the USDM wheel, but has the same safety. Looks great too!

im sure after 2 years theres probably another more recent thread on this subject... you think???
It is illegal to remove airbags....cops will give u a fix it ticket if they know whats going on. In California you will not pass CHP inspection beacuse of it.
And those of you saying it's ok to take it out if u have harnesses need to bemore specific. Most harnesses that are FIA legal are not legal on the streets. So you could get a ticket for that too. OEM belts should be used on the streets at all times because with harnesses on properly you cannot look over your shoulder for lane checking.
I personally do not have airbags in my itr on either side. I run OEM belts on the street and during events I have Sparco 5-points.....4 points are for dummies.....unless u like wearing your harness around your ribs.

my friend passed CHP inspection with his RHD converted integra with a non-srs wheel
depends on if the cops want to be ********, if they want to expletive you they will expletive you

depends on what state because you are removing a pre-existing safety feature. I know a guy who got nailed for having a sparco wheel in his Si cause he got rid of the air bag.
