Midwest Expo Caravan from Chicago
There have been several topics started here and on itrca.com about a Midwest caravan to the Expo leaving from the Chicago area. Let's keep the official topic as this one:
http://www.itrca.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3768
but let's also keep this topic open on h-t.com so that everyone here can see it.
Details about meeting for breakfast in Glenview, probably Thursday morning, are in that link. I will be putting together a list of cell phone numbers of those who want to join the caravan, either starting in Glenview, or meeting up with us along the way. If you're thinking about joining us, send me a PM and include your cell number if you have one. I'll share the list of folks and numbers only in private among the group, and will not post the numbers on the boards.
The following folks are planning to be in the caravan, or thinking about it:
Meeting in Glenview
nsxtasy (Ken)
.CN (Chris)
hecklervtec (Scott) (tentative)
lanceh (Lance) and brewcityR (Aaron)
cheezthis (Jay)
itrsport.com (Josh)
Kicker773 (breakfast only)
Joining en route from California
austin (tentative)
Joining en route from Columbus
BDBGoalie1982 (John)
Leaving Thursday late afternoon from Joliet

To get there Thursday night, to spend Friday hanging out with folks and going to the banquet.
I'm not sure whether you are instead suggesting Wednesday (we'd get there Wednesday night, and not much at all is going to be happening on Thursday) or Friday (unless we left REALLY REALLY early, we would stand a good chance of missing the banquet on Friday, as well as hanging with folks on Friday afternoon, when a lot of people will already be there - and we'd be pretty beat to s**t, not just for the banquet, but for the drivers school on Saturday).
If some folks want to leave a different day, that's okay - we can have more than one caravan, leaving on different days. I'm willing to compile the cell numbers for any caravans leaving from Chicago on any days, just to make things easier.

yeah, i was questioning as opposed to leaving early on friday morning.. just seems weird to leave 2 days before essentially a 1 day event.. but you're right, it does let everyone try to be well rested for driving saturday..
I start a new job that week so I won't be able to take Friday off. I'm actually thinking about leaving Friday after work and going from there, but still not sure if It'll even be worth it arriving that late

Yeah, I don't know. If you leave Chicago Friday after work, say 5 pm, and you're then looking at driving ~430 miles, which means a minimum of 6.5-7 hours plus stops plus the one hour time zone change plus extra time if you're dealing with rush hour traffic, you're looking at getting there 4 am Saturday best case and maybe later. You would miss the Friday banquet, and you wouldn't exactly be in the best of shape to drive on Saturday, although you could still spectate and nap in your car no prob, and be a part of whatever happens for dinner Saturday. Your call, of course.
Hey, either way, congratulations on the new job, Erick, and best of luck with it!

Thanks Ken....I'm actually contemplating spectating and just being there for some of the time on that Saturday including Sat. night, we'll see how it all pans out
I might be able to meet up with you guys on the way out. I'm not sure where jdmspoonitr and I will be on our drive, but it looks like we might be in the area.

I suggest you IM me with your cell phone number. That way you will be on the list of cell numbers for our caravan, and you'll have ours. You can call us en route to coordinate hooking up.
Same thing for anyone else who wants to try meeting up with us.

All is looking good for the car to be ready in time for the Expo, so hopefully I'll be there too. I'm not going to do anything until next week, but I'm looking forward to being able to go.
nbp933 and i will most likely be meeting up along the way, for me atleast, it is about a 2.5 hour drive just to glenview, plus all the back tracking to get back to 80. we will definitely be part of the caravan though...

You're welcome to meet up with us on our way out of town. I'm sure we'll be going from Walker Brothers through downtown Chicago to the Skyway. If you're coming on I-80 from Joliet, our routes converge about 20 miles east of the Illinois-Indiana state line, where you get onto the Indiana Toll Road from I-80. We will already be on the Indiana Toll Road at that point.
If all goes according to plan, we might be going past that point as early as 10 a.m. (but things never seem to go perfectly on time). That's what cell phones are for; just call one of us and we'll let you know exactly where we are.

I edited the first post in this topic to add the names of those who are planning to be in our caravan, or considering it.

Yes, except that we're not going to need to stop that soon. Just call on the cell and we'll tell you when we expect to go by there. Be ready to roll when we go by.
