Generally...
10w40
4 quarts (~3.4 for drain/fill, ~3.7 for oil and filter change)
oil - every 3000 miles, filter - every other oil change
sometimes

I would advise getting Motul 300V Estar. The F4 will take 4 quarts. No more, no less. Make sure to change the oil when the engine is still warm. This will make the old oil take out all the old crap too. Fairing don't have to come off, but be aware it will be a messy job, particularly on the headers. Also the Motul 300V is the highest grade oil available period. It will run you at least $13 a quart. Also you will need a quality oil filter. I would go with K&N, because they come ready for racing tie downs, and they are a very high quality filter. Hope this helps. BTW, you will notice a definate improvement in the way the engine runs with the 300V. Try it at least once.
Edit: whoops what bike do you have?

Are you sure it's the oil filters and not the air filters? I've heard that the air filters cause a loss of power. I've never heard that about the oil filters, though...just my 2c
