Default 10 Sec. for $10,000

I was wondering if anybody has done a budget build up for drag purposes, and if that is to much to spend or not enough for street legal car to run 10's for under 10 grand including the price of the car. I have done some calculations just want to see what you guys have to say.

Just my opinion

Once you perform any modifications to the car/motor it will no longer be street legal. $10,000+ includign the car and not running 10s.

GET A BIKE, you will go 10's for 10k and it is a lot cheaper.

You will need more then 10k if your including the price of the car.

I think you might be able to do if you do all the labor yourself, get a good hook up on parts, safety equiptment, machine work and the most important part of the combination is the tuning.

I agree with you (uglyasscivic). My post was generated to see if anybody had done a project like this, like the one in HCI backyard turbo project. I have been into this scene and industry for about 6 years and have owned a shop but With the unbelieable improvements today's products and tunning tools available and the most important factor our knowledge of this whole sport. I lived in Hawaii from 95-99 and saw Lanny Higa drive his daily driven Hypersports Civic to the track and bust 10's in 98-99!!! but I also saw how many parts he would break as well as all the other racers and the money that would be spent. But now effciency is the name of the game. I really think that this scenario would be possible probably not with a built block though, proper tunning alah Cunha my hero. Maybe won't run 10's for a long period of time.

Just my opinion

My old high school friend just did this. He picked up an old 240 and a 350 with stock GM auto tranny. Did the work himself and 100 shot of nitrous got him in the 10s. The car without the nitrous drove 11s all day back and forth from school. He said total cost was around 7000.

It is harder to do it in a Honda but it can be done! You need to start with a good base car like a hatch that somebody already did a bunch to and has it running. Throw on a turbo crank up the boost and go. Now shortly after that you are going to start replacing parts. However you will go tens at least once for 10k.

only thing that most people probably can't do themselves is the 5 point rollbar, everything else can be done, and used parts would be key

It could be done and reliable in my opinion. Grab a shell 200-500 bucks....bare block and bare head = 200 (I got a Bare b16 block for $1.00 on ebay with free shipping).....if ya dont build the block & head yourself....your looking at around 3000.00 give or take a few hundred.....tranny = 500.....grab a few nick nack things at a junk yard and your set.

an actual recipe, from starting with nothing, a REAL 10 sec STREET LEGAL car:
(nos bottles covered)

car
92 civic cx/dx/vx, high miles, complete,running: 1500.00
si/ex civic cluster (you'll need a tach): 75.00

swap
h22a engine/trans/ecu/halfshaft (pieced together, not a swap):1300.00
shifters/cables off ebay: 50.00

ebay 3" cold air: 40.00

performance
89mm forged 10 to 1 pistons: 400.00
rs sleeves/bore/hone/deck: 800.00
eagle rods: 300.00
rod bearings (reuse mains and all other seals/etc) 65.00
(reuse all other parts from good running engine)
head gasket: 50.00
portflow springs/retainers (9200 rpm): 300.00

2 used nos kits (1 single fogger, 1 direct port) 450.00
msd 6a & external coil used, ebay: 100.00
walbro pump: 80.00
aem regulator: 135.00
muffler shop 2.5" exhaust: 200.00

wheels/sus
lenso's and 25" slicks (used) 420.00
vx wheels , junkyard: 50.00
omnipower adj. spring kit 135.00

misc
used carbon hood: 175.00
used racing seat: 150.00
dot full face helmet, new, ebay 50.00
8 point http://www.cachassisworks.com/cages.htm : 181.00
welding (if you cant' do it) 200.00

dual stage nitrous, single fogger 150 out of the hole, another 150 for the 2nd stage.

2000 lb car (gutted, one seat only, full glass, no sway bars, cx brakes, lightly trimmed and lightened doors, trunk etc.)
1.5 60 ft.
appx. 425 whp.

10.50's. all day. full street car. REAL streat car. One that could live, and run through the rounds, all day.

i think that et is conservative.

total: $9000.00

the other grand can go to dyno tuning, nitrous refills, tires, and entry fee's for a while.
