Default New motor break in smoke? how long? is it too late? advice

Alright so this is my first motor ive built, i need some advice, help guys. it is a B18c1 with B16 head. PR3 pistons .50 over, new bearings, machine work everything the whole 9 yards including oil pump, water pump, timing belt, headgasket, etc. ran it for 30 min till it warmed up, dropped and changed the oil. I ran the first 100 miles at full throttle but NEVER revved over 4500 RPMS. coasted down, never hit the brakes , just downshifted. after 100 miles i dropped the oil again and started taking it to 5500 rpms, sometimes 6000. after 250 miles i took it to 6500. after 400 i took it to 7000 and 7500 a couple times. since about the 250 mile mark however, whenever i coast down, it puffs out smoke white with a blueish tint(oil). it is burning oil, but not at an accelerated rate. maybe a 1/8th of a quart ever 3-4 days. If i cruise it never smokes at all, but when i coast down , it puffs it out, and its quite a lot. then after it idles, it goes away. Is this normal ir is my motor already in need to be rebuilt? im running about 11.8:1 compression right now, and i didnt put a FPR on until after 100 miles when i pulled the plugs and it was apparent i was running lean (plugs were white). im running 46lbs fuel pressure as of now. im just worried i did something wrong an the rings didnt seat and i just wanted to hear peoples opinions. I had heard people locally say it might take 1000miles + till the rings fully seat. but ive also read articles saying that because of me running so lean in the beginning i may have overheated the pistons and pushed them into the cylinder walls. i did a compression test and the numbers were 2,230,230,230 from 1-4. also, there is a leak coming from the headgasket area that is oil. its not overheating andi have no reason to beleive the headgasket is blown, but it is seaping out from somewhere and it appears to be from there. i will take pics and post soon. thanks for any help.

All I can thnk of right now is either your pcv valve, running too much oil, or valve seals.

Seems as though i got the same problem. Oil by the tranny side only though. I think it may be the headgasket but im not sure, its untuned but i dont know if that matters or not, i checked everything a number of times before putting it together. Did you use an OEM headgasket? Did you spill any oil when pouring it in the engine, At this point it could be a number of things. Pull the head and check it out is my advice.

i don't know if this might help but i had a similar condition on my ls-v tec . when i put my cams in i had alot of smoke bellowing out my exhaust and also had a leak from my head down to the block. this was all solved by replacing my cam seal and number 4 valve seal and car runs great with no smoke.

How about burning oil (like 2 quarts every 1000miles) with no signs of leakage/burning smell/or smoke out of my exhaust pipe? troubleshooters?

That is very strange have you done a leak down test to maybe guide you with your oil consumption problem ?

Well last night, i decided to check the torque on my head studs. I pulled the cams out and with a torque wrench i tried to see if the studs were torqued down still. to my surprise 2 of them spun freely. well , 6 out of 8 aint bad!

Thats looks like aluminum!

Good News is the pistons look good

Well, i dont know what to think. The studs torqued down to spec PERFECT when we put the motor together. I dont know what caused 2 of them to strip out after they were put in fine. I ordered AEBS headstuds, but my question is , am i screwed anyway now? how can i thread studs in , when the holes are stripped out? jesus, this sucks, advice welcome.

Get your head resurfaced for one. Use timeserts or keenserts in your block(I like keenserts myself). They are stronger than stock. Just need the inserts and tools to use them. If you aren't good at stuff like that have someone do it for you. You can get these inserts at your local fastener store. They work great.
